The countdown is on! Applications for the General Ballot for the historic 100th edition of the Comrades Marathon, open tomorrow, 9 September 2026, at 10:00 SAST.

This is your opportunity to be part of The Greatest Story Ever Run!

📌 Key details:

✅Ballot application window: Wednesday, 9 September at 10:00 SAST to Tuesday, 22 September 2026 at 16:30 SAST

✅Who can apply: South African, Rest of Africa and International runners who have not yet secured an entry

✅Application fee: A non-refundable R10 tokenisation fee is payable when submitting your application

✅No need to rush: The ballot application process is not first-come, first-served, and applying early does not give you an advantage

The RunnerAwards GP Gala Dinner was a beautiful celebration of passion, dedication, and the incredible spirit of our running community. The moment Johannesburg City Marathon was announced as the Most Improved Race of the Year was truly unforgettable! 🥳💙🎊🎉

Our representatives, Nathalie Roelf, Hlengiwe Manqele, Mahlatse Bojanyane and Hangwani Sydney Ramakuwela, had the honour of celebrating this milestone while mingling with the who’s who of the running fraternity.

We are incredibly grateful and humbled by this recognition. Thank you to everyone who supported, voted, and believed in the journey of the Johannesburg City Marathon. 🙏🏽 🫂

Happy Medal Monday! 🏆✨🎊🌟

The celebrations continue as we proudly reflect on an incredible achievement — being crowned Most Improved Race of the Year at the RunnerAwards GP on Saturday, 22 August 2026.

Here’s the acceptance speech by Nathalie Roelf, Secretary General of the Johannesburg Athletics Club and a member of the Johannesburg City Marathon Race Organising Committee:

"On behalf of the Johannesburg City Marathon, it is an absolute honour to accept this award for MOST IMPROVED RACE OF THE YEAR.

This recognition means so much to our entire team because it reflects the hard work, commitment and passion that goes on behind the scenes to continually improve the experience for every runner.

We would like to thank our runners, volunteers, partners, officials and the entire organising committee for believing in the vision of the Johannesburg City Marathon.

We extremely are proud of how far we have come within a short space of three editions of the race, but we are even more excited about where we are going.

Thank you for recognising our journey. This award belongs to the entire Johannesburg Harriers Athletics Club family, who will shout about it to the ends of the world and wear it proudly like a badge.

Thank you, and we look forward to making the Johannesburg City Marathon even bigger and better for more runners in 2027!"
