Karkloof Trail Marathon - Postponement.
After last night's announcement by the President, that he is moving the country back to Covid Alert Level 3 as of 16 June 2021, the Karkloof Trail Series organizers have had to make to make the tough decision to postpone this yearsโ Karkloof Trail Marathon.
The reasons why we are postponing are as follows:
Under Level 3, outdoor gatherings are limited to 100 people. Unfortunately we will not be able to meet that requirement on race day, with all the staff, volunteers, runners and supporters involved in the event.
As a member of SAAMES, the Karkloof Trail Series is permitted to operate under Levels 1 and 2 only, as prescribed by the Department of Sport and Recreation. No allowances were made for Level 3.
Lastly, we do not want to put our runners, staff, volunteers and the Howick / Karkloof community at further risk during this time.
This has not been an easy decision, and we realize that many runners and families have planned their long weekend around the event, and for that we apologize for the inconveniences caused.
Over the next few days, we will make an announcement on a new date, as well as other details around your race entries, such as transfers, refunds and the likes. Please bear with us for a few days as we figure this out.
However, if you are in the area, please do go down to the Karkloof Country Club and run the trails that are open over the weekend.
The Milk Loop will be open and dedicated to runners on both Saturday and Sunday, as well as any of the other trails that the club offers.
Andrew and Jack will be down at the club on Saturday morning, so please come past a say hi if you are in the area and buy some merchandise.
We will braai at the club for lunch, so feel free to join us for that as well.
Please note the club does charge a small fee to run the trails, which will be in effect.
Other recommended trails in the area are the uMngeni Valley Nature Reserve (WESSA), and the Karkloof Canopy Tour Trails.
We are gutted at having to postpone, but the health and safety of our community - this is the right decision!
Take care and be safe out there,
Andrew, Jack and the Karkloof Trail Series Team
