The New Beginning
The Free Form Fest is a creative arts festival located in the beautiful mountain town of Graskop, Mpumalanga. Not only is the fest just 10ks away from the legendary God's Window, it is also hosted by the exquisite Mozambican Restaurant, Canimambo. The aim of the festival is to expose a variety of Africa's "Free Form" talent, create awareness of the town's beauty and to raise funds for a charity from the area.
In December 2016, Graskop Town flooded over our usual December dates of the Free Form Festival. Causing havoc beyond our control.. Destroying everything we had planned for. The water was coming out of the ground,all the electrics started getting wet, The main stage equipment was about to be drowned even though it was on top of the stage, the gazebos and umbrellas were being blown to pieces, The bar fridges seized, campsites were full with water with no cover, crew members were running around like headless chickens and when I turned around and looked at our coca-cola stretch tent there must have been about 20 festival goers and our security guards all holding on to it for deal life! That thing was about to lift and sommer take them all with it....
Our Crew and The Part-Time Pirates then managed to get all the festival goers to Canimambo Restaurant where some even pitched their tents under the shelter of the Restaurants Center. Luckily our Dig Deep DJS were there to save the day, they dried the wet souls of all our people and the festivities began again!
On the Saturday morning the most magical thing happened, my eyes filled with joy and relief as the sun started to appear, The Dandies arrived in their gumboots and rain jackets to help me start all over. Shortly after that nearly every single festival goer, crew member, locals, family, friends,bands, artists and more arose from the mud and helped me re build the festival!
