IMPORTANT NEWS! The GBS Mountain Drive Half Marathon will have a new venue for 2026. Please note that the race start and finish will take place from the Wyvern Club at Kingswood College this year. The route will remain much the same, with just the starting and finishing points from the new venue. This has been occasioned by a date mix-up, and we will be back at Graeme College next year. Thank you to the Wyvern and Kingswood for welcoming us so warmly for the 2026 race! We're looking forward to see you all here to 'Conquer the Mountain'!!

To all our lovely Mountain Drive Half Marathon runners - please would you note the change in the date of the event from 8th to 15th August. We apologise for this - it is a long story, and most of you would have had the 15th diarized from the EPA calendar anyway. So.....we hope that we will see you all here to conquer the Mountain on 15 August!! New runners and experienced Mountain lovers!

The weather is HOT - but Friday is the Autumn Equinox! We can begin to look forward to cooler days soon!

Join us for the annual Mountain Meander, part of the Rotary in Season events (along with the Polar Plunge (June 21), and Greet the Sun yoga morning (September 21)) - Friday 20 March, up on Mountain Drive for a sunset walk in the late afternoon, and later in the moonlight. We'll rest at the toposcope and enjoy some refreshments (bring your own picnic) before heading back to Mountain View Manor.

There will be lifts for those who fade along the way - but otherwise, come along and meander with us to celebrate the Autumn Equinox.

Fellow Ultra Distance Runners‼️ We are looking for the trail runners who take on the 50km distance⛰️. So far, we have a handful registered this year - and let's face it - the long race is EVERYTHING🙌.

The 30km is looking stacked for this weekend🤩, and we're hoping for more runners in the 50km!

Get your early registrations in for the 2025 Oldenburghia Trail Run!

This is our city's premier local trail running event that celebrates the incredible fauna, flora, and trails of Mountain Drive; also known as the Rietberg and needs your support.

Online entries are available through the Rotary Club of Grahamstown Sunset website at:

You can sign up for the 8km, 15km, 30km, and 50km events that covers single track pathways and signature features of the Southern Commonage of Makhanda, Toposcope, Mountain View Manor, and the Oldenburghia Day Trail across to Craig Doone farm and back.

If you would like to support the event through running a water table, marshalling, or being a vendor at the Start / Finish, please contact FLOM directly.

We love the Mountain and can't wait for this premier local event!

We are especially grateful to Kevin Campbell for playing the bagpipes up on the mountain this year! It is a feature of the race that has become popular with our runners, but last year, we were not able to find a piper. Somehow, hearing the sound of the pipes drifting over the Mountain Drive gives the runners inspiration after a long uphill section.
