Green hydrogen is gaining important momentum in South Africa, and the ELIDZ is proud to be part of this national shift as one of the projects featured in the ๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐†๐ซ๐ž๐ž๐ง ๐‡๐ฒ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ž๐ง ๐ˆ๐ง๐ฏ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐๐จ๐จ๐ค๐ฅ๐ž๐ญ.

The booklet profiles six priority green hydrogen projects across the country, with ๐ญ๐ฐ๐จ ๐ฅ๐จ๐œ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐„๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง ๐‚๐š๐ฉ๐ž, including ๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐ฅ๐ž๐ ๐›๐ฒ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐„๐‹๐ˆ๐ƒ๐™. This is a meaningful recognition of the provinceโ€™s growing role in the emerging green hydrogen economy.

The Eastern Cape has unveiled its Green Hydrogen Strategy at the African Green Hydrogen Summit (AGHS) 2026 in Cape Town, setting out how the province intends to leverage its renewable energy and industrial advantages to attract investment, develop new industries, create jobs and strengthen its position in the emerging global green economy.

The Strategy is the product of collaboration between the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT), the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) and Nelson Mandela University (NMU). The partnership brings together government, technical expertise and academic knowledge to support a coordinated approach to green hydrogen development in the province.

The Eastern Cape will join the Northern and Western Capes at the African Green Hydrogen Summit (AGHS) 2026, presenting a coordinated Three Capes proposition aimed at positioning the region as a globally competitive green hydrogen and green industrialisation hub.

Led by the Eastern Cape Premier, Honourable Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, the provincial participation will highlight the provinceโ€™s renewable energy resources, strategic ports, established Special Economic Zones (SEZs), industrial capabilities and developing green hydrogen project pipeline.

The Eastern Cape will also showcase its green hydrogen ambitions and investment proposition during the Summit, highlighting the Provinceโ€™s roadmap for unlocking investment, partnerships and new industries.
