THREE DAYS TO GO ....

The clock is ticking with just three days to go until the 2026 Breathe World Ocean Day Swim sponsored by FNB on June 6 at Durban Beach Club – and there are some important things for entrants and potential entrants to know.

1) Online pre-entries close tomorrow (Thursday) at midday, thereafter you will need to enter on the day and pay a premium for your entry. Entries are open at MyActive https://breatheworldoceandayswim2026.myactive.co.za/

2) All entrants will get important race info sent to them tomorrow (not today – entries only close tomorrow, so it cannot be sent before entries close) – but, if you are excited and can't wait to get a sneak peak at the race instructions, you can go to the official race website and read the race instructionshttp://worldoceandayswim.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/WOD-2026-info-pack.pdf
And, maybe not suprisingly, there is more race information on the website at https://worldoceandayswim.co.za/race-information/

3) The weather is looking good for Saturday so get ready for a fantastic celebration of World Ocean Day in the best possible way, with a swim aimed at creating healthier oceans.

4) Most importantly, all proceeds of this event go to Breathe Conservation, so just by entering any of the four races – 800m, 1.6km, 3.2km or 5km – you will be contributing to a cleaner ocean.

Any surf swim starts with your entry into the water, so it makes sense to start saving energy from before the first stroke. In this tip from race founder Sarah Ferguson and Spurt_SA, she suggests high legs over the surf, swim the moment it gets deep, and on the way out transition back to a run the second your fingers hit the sand.

It's race week for Saturday's 2026 Breathe World Ocean Day Swim sponsored by FNB, so make sure you get your entry in (if you have not already done so) and look out for more tips from Sarah and race sponsors Spurt.

Entries are open at https://breatheworldoceandayswim2026.myactive.co.za/ and find out more about the event at https://worldoceandayswim.co.za/

FINAL SWIM CLINIC

Last week saw "amazing conditions" for last week's swim clinic and the organisers are hoping for more of the same this weekend. The clinics at Marine Lifesaving Club are to help prepare swimmers for next weekend's Breathe World Ocean Day Swim sponsored by FNB.

Anyone wanting to join the clinics is asked to meet at Marine Surf Lifesaving Club at 7am and the cost is just a R50 donation to lifeguards assisting with safety. If you are interested please join the Ocean Swim Clinic Group WhatsApp link at https://chat.whatsapp.com/LL5yqq4FEGD4NWLft21zZl?mode=gi_t so Trevor can make sure he has enough volunteer lifeguards.

NOTE: This is NOT a "learn to swim clinic" but will help swimmers become more comfortable, confident & skilled in ocean swimming.

Entries for the Breathe World Ocean Day Swim sponsored by FNB are open at MyActive at https://breatheworldoceandayswim2026.myactive.co.za/

For more information on the swim on June 6 go to www.worldoceandayswim.co.za
