On 27 September, we're taking kids aged 5–16 out on the water at Miller's Point for the JBK Outdoors Ocean Adventure, together with Katvis Charters.

4 hours of boat fishing, challenges, new skills, and hopefully plenty of fish stories to take home.

And yes… they keep their catch.

Heritage Day is coming. And apparently, sitting on the couch isn't a recognised Heritage Day tradition.

This year, bring the kids to Eagle Creek and see what happens when you give them a fishing rod instead.

There’ll be carp, fishing challenges, bragging rights and — depending on the fish — some highly questionable stories afterwards.

Saturday at the dam: wind 1, boys 5.

The boys showed up ready to fish, and they were not about to let a bit of wind ruin the day.

The wind would blow, settle down, then blow again. So every time it gave us a break, the boys got their lines in the water — and it paid off.

Alex was first on the board, landing an absolute beauty and, naturally, that was all it took to turn the session into a full-blown competition.

Suddenly everyone was watching everyone else's rod, counting fish and keeping score. You could literally see the excitement in their steps.

Kai was the last one to get amongst the fish. But once he started... he didn't stop.

And the best part? Michelle messaged me afterwards with Kai's review of the day:

"Today was the best day ever."

I think we'll take that as a 5-star review.

That's what the Catch Club is about — getting kids outdoors, teaching them to fish, and giving them a day they're still talking about afterwards.

School holidays + boats + fishing + a little friendly competition = one seriously good day out.

On 27 September, JBK Outdoors is teaming up with Katvis Charters for an Ocean Adventure at Miller's Point for kids aged 5–16. They'll spend 4 hours on the water fishing, then put their skills to the test with the Catch Challenge, casting and knot-tying challenges, plus an NSRI water-safety presentation.

Nathaniel decided to do something a little different for his birthday this year...

Instead of the usual birthday activities, he and his friends joined me for a fishing experience — and considering it was everyone's first time fishing, they got stuck into it pretty quickly!

There were plenty of laughs, plenty of excitement and, of course, plenty of fish.

The birthday boy Nathaniel took the honours for the biggest fish of the day, while Llewellyn somehow managed to catch the most "misbankers”.

It was a brilliant way to spend a birthday, and judging by the conversations afterwards, the boys aren't finished yet.

They’re already planning their next adventure — sea fishing!

Boys just wanna have fun… and apparently catch 5.35 kg fish.

What started as a day of fishing and having a bit of fun turned into one seriously impressive catch.

These boys landed one of the biggest fish I’ve seen come out of the dam — 5.35 kg on the scale.

That’s not a fish anymore. That’s a small personal achievement with fins.

The smiles say it all. Great fishing, great teamwork and a memory they’re definitely going to be talking about for a while.

5.35 kg. Not bad for a day of “just having fun.”

Another 5-star review... these reviews are becoming harder to keep up with!

Natasha summed up her Catch Club experience perfectly:

What a day at the dam.

We started with a proper blanket of mist hiding most of the water. By the time Noah jumped out of the car, though, the mist had cleared and the fishing was on.

And what a session it turned into.

Noah landed NINE fish during the session — and, unsurprisingly, suddenly leaving was not part of the plan.

We were also joined by one of my old clients, Veer, so naturally the competition was on.

A great day, plenty of fish, a bit of friendly competition and a very happy young angler.

I’ve also been told we’ll be seeing each other again soon… so I guess I’ll be seeing if Noah can beat that nine-fish record.
