Dywili & Madophe present Waskom Etiquette and Escape.

Waskom:
There are pros and cons to township living that can't be neatly broken down! WASKOM ETIQUETTE explores the idiosyncrasies and patterns of the Kasi lifestyle, with WASKOM as a symbol of both status and poverty. The plot unfolds on a Friday, from waking up to returning from work for the working class. It is Friday, and something is expected to happen.

Escape:
Escape explores the depth of love Xolani faces in kasi as he goes back and forth, reminded of his purpose beyond seeking intimacy.

Each performance is 35 minutes long.

Thuth’ ubisi: Evokes the image of carrying ‘Milk’ a valuable cultural asset, is a phrase used to describe the continued return to a particular place, juncture and or idea to milk it for its value.

As a Frontier town Ngqushwa has various trails with immense history and wonder, this initiative returns to the landmarks of Ngqushwa to milk its silenced heritage finding wealth in the natural landscapes fusing hikes and performances that narrate the history of the land.

Along the Great Fish River banks is a place known to oral historians as KwaMankazana, a rift valley with a cave where amaXhosa hid women during the Frontier Wars with the British, until the defeat when the British found the women they massacred them on site.

The project parallels this act of violence with the daily deaths of women in South Africa through GBV and femicide, asking the question: Who accounts for the spirits of these women?

People who die violent deaths must have the spirits collected at the sites of death and their spirit cleansed to ensure they transit into the world of ancestors with dignity.

While having the actual hike in Ngqushwa, in Cape Town we will screen footage of the trail to give people a glimpse of the actual trail followed by a theatre production “The Beloved” and an engagement with a selected panel, cast and audience members.

Tickets are R70 for the short screening and theatre performance.

Then what happens in the space when there is no show? Well, we have people like Bulelani Ntame and his team who usually use the space to showcase their productions to friends, family, and the community at large.

We are excited for them; they sold out tomorrow's production, and it was all managed by them.

Truth revealed, Truth unknown by Sive Stali, Anda Mgaba, Kamva Yekwa, Liyema Mfeka, Awonke Kinglose, and Bulelani Ntame.
