Stoked to announce that the first 36ONE Openwater Swim Series 'Viking Challenge' of 2026, will be our 5km adventure swim 🏊‍♀️🌊 from Cosy Bay to Camps Bay beach.

The spectacular views of Table Mountain's Twelve Apostles as well as Lionshead ahead, will accompany you in these pristine Atlantic waters, as you swim past the famous beaches of Bakoven, to the finish at Camps Bay beach. ⛱️

Scheduled for Sunday, May 31*
Tickets will go on sale soon 🎟

Cosy Bay is located close to Oudekraal, and the 12 Apostles Hotel & Spa.
*with alternate days being the Saturday or even the Friday before, weather dependant.

This is a super scenic adventure swim, with views of Table Mountain, Lionshead, as well as all of Clifton's beaches. And everything that lurks beneath!
This swim 🏊🌊 is at an intermediate level, and does go up'n'over a few kelp forests.
If visibility is epic, turquoise waters will surround you, and beachy sand is what you will see below.

The 8am LAPPER (map on 3rd slide) swimmers are emerging from their 750m loops.

This swim is ideal for those swimmers that are newish to open water and ocean swimming and all its challenges.*

You never leave Clifton 4th beach, so your swim exit is always in view. You can bail at any time, as each loop is only 750m, so you can tailor your swim length (750m, 1500m, 2250m) to your level and feels.
The safety crew is always extra close by, and can paddle you to shore (and your warm clothes and snacks!) in a few minutes.
You can take it easy, as you have 45 minutes to complete as many laps as you want.
No pressure.

LEVEL UP!
There is the added challenge for advanced swimmers, to complete 3 or more laps, and then add on the Miler (1600m) or MilePlus (3200m) for an extra long DIY 🏊‍♀️ event.



*Challenges include sighting, navigation, cold water acclimatisation, hypothermia's grip, challenging water conditions, racing heart rates and more.

This 20+min 405m guided swim is the perfect introduction to open water swimming in our rebellious Atlantic Ocean, along one of the calmest most sheltered, and prettiest beaches we have here.

You will learn about:
• acclimatisation
• open water sighting
• the signs of hypothermia and how to test yourself
• how to stay calm, and how to relax if already nervous
• how to best rest when tired or overwhelmed..and more

All you need is curiosity and some determination to learn.

You will be gently guided through this short, but essential and informative swim, which will equip you with the tools you need to continue your open water swimming journey.

We think there is nothing more exhilarating (and affordable!) than a swim along our gorgeous coastline. The constantly changing magic that reveals itself within the ocean, and the spectacular views of the beach (where your warm things await!) and mountains of Cape Town.
By the time you finish, the sun is slowly making it's way over the Nek, and you will feel exhilarated and stoked to have started a new adventure.

Sunday, 29 March is our next monthly 36ONE Openwater Swim Series event.

Early 🐦 Bird ticket prices still valid.

Splash Dash: 07h15 - 07h45
This 405m guided 'introduction to open water swimming' is a great way to get started in the world of open water swimming, and costs R70.

Lapper: 08h00 - 08h45
This repeatable 700m loop is a great way to scale up from beginner to intermediate swims, and costs R165.

Miler: 09h00-10h00
This 1.6km lap stretches across all of Clifton's gorgeous beaches and is of moderate difficulty in good conditions. Our oceans are wild at times, and can be very cold. Early Bird cost is R195.

MilePlus: 09h00 - 10h15
This 3km route combines the Lapper and Miler, which adds the twist of navigation. This can prove tricky, and is for those that feel confident doing the Miler and want to level up, ultra triathlon swimmers and all Robben Island wannabe's. Only R250.

The Splash Dash -
a guided 400m intro to open water swimming
The Lapper -
swim as many laps of 750m in 45mins as you can, with your safety exit always nearby

For the intermediate & advanced open water swimmers we have:
The Miler -
a 1.6km swim across all of Clifton's stunning beaches and back
The MilePlus -
a testy 3.2km swim starting with a loop of the lapper, then heading out all the way to Clifton 1st beach, and on return another loop of the lapper before victoriously finishing an icy (up to 90min) swim. 🧊

Beware that water temperatures🌡can be anywhere from 9-15°C, with multiple temperatures represented during your swim.

Delighted to announce the next Clifton 4th beach '36One Open Water Swim Series' 🏊🌊 kicking off this Sunday 🌅 March 1.

We'll be introducing the 'Mile Plus+' 3.2km swim for all the extra adventurous, those training for Robben Island or eyeing out a 70.3.
The fan favourite 'Miler' (1.6km across all Clifton beaches) will be there, alongside the 'Lapper' (4th beach laps of 750m), and for those new to Cape Town ocean swimming, we have the 'Splash Dash' (400m beginner friendly guided ocean swim).

Early Bird ticket prices are Splash Dash R70, Lapper R165, Miler R195 and MilePlus R250.
