FROM KWAMATHUSI CAPE TOWN TO KWAMATHUSI EMFUNDENI THE VALLEY OF HEALING
Emfundeni (The Village) as my home was called by this special name, the village called Maqumbi that I left as a teenager as my family relocated to the city. The village faded behind, with time, the distance turned into silence. I grew, survived, adapted and never went back. I became a City to City girl😊✊🏽❤️ as I moved from Durban to ten years in Johannesburg and now approaching twenty years in Cape Town.
Forty years later, History called me home. Yes, 40 years🤔
I came back for a relative's traditional ceremony and in that sacred gathering, time collapsed. Everyone embraced me with love. Faces I last saw in childhood welcomed me. It was as if I never left. I met the new generation- young, vibrant, rooted, carrying my blood, my stories, my future. In them, I saw continuity, In them, I felt belonging❤️
Memories returned like rain on dry earth: running feet, laughter, dust, songs, open skies. What I once labelled as "Rural and poor," shaped by the city eyes, revealed itself new. I saw beauty in simplicity, wealth in community, peace in unspoiled land. The village was not lacking, it was complete. Tranquil. Pure joy. A place where humanity still breathed freely, untouched by harshness and isolation of city life.
In that moment, the journey came full circle❤️
I fell deeply in love- with My People, My Roots, My Land and My True self. The return was no longer a visit, it was a calling. I left with a vow in my heart:
" I am returning here, to rebuild the
bridge between the past and the
future, and to live where my spirit
remembers who it is." 🙌🏾❤️
