Stanturf Unitedโs qualification for the Bayhill Premier Cup 2026 is the result of careful planning, shared belief, and a strong foundation laid long before the first whistle of the playoffs. Coach Eugene Majiet reflects on the journey, the challenges faced along the way, and the mindset driving his team into one of South African youth footballโs most prestigious tournaments.

At the heart of Stanturf Unitedโs campaign is continuity. Coach Majiet explains that the team was built around a core group of players who already shared a deep understanding of one another.
โWe used the core of our U18 boys as they played the season together, and we recently added a few players during the playoffs,โ he says. โDiscipline, hard work and showing up for each other are values we try to instil in these boys. At Stanturf, we are all family.โ
That sense of unity has become a defining trait of the squad, both on and off the pitch.

Qualification for Bayhill is never straightforward, and Coach Majiet is well aware of the mental demands that come with it.
โThis yearโs playoffs, we were fortunate enough to know what it takes to come out of these gruelling contests, as weโve been there before,โ he explains. โBut we still had to get the boys into the right frame of mind. The mental part of football plays a vital role.โ
Tactically, Stanturf United focused on adaptability, preparing different setups to counter various opponents encountered during the qualification stages.

Like any demanding campaign, the journey came with setbacks. Conceding goals against the run of play tested the teamโs resolve.
โWe conceded a couple of goals against the run of play, which is normal,โ Majiet admits. โWe just had to remind the boys to keep their concentration levels up.โ
That calm reinforcement from the technical team ensured the players stayed focused during key moments.

When asked about a standout match, one fixture immediately stands out.
โThe thirdโround match against Eyethu FC,โ says Majiet. โWe led 2โ1, they equalised early in the second half, and then we scored the winner in extra time. In that moment, you could see the determination and belief these boys had.โ
It was a performance that captured the spirit of the team and underlined their readiness for the Bayhill stage.

As Stanturf United prepares to compete at the Bayhill Premier Cup 2026, the coachโs message to his squad is clear and heartfelt.
โTrust the process and the work we put in at training,โ he says. โAnd like the youngsters of today say, go be great, kiddos.โ
With preparation complete and belief firmly in place, Stanturf United arrive at Bayhill ready to test themselves against the best, carrying the values of discipline, unity and resilience every step of the way.
