8,500 international runners joined us for race weekend this year, a significant number of them competing as Abbott World Marathon Majors Marathon Tours and Travel Age Group World Championship athletes. 💙

From the opening night concert to race day and that incredible blue carpet finish, this is how their weekend in our beautiful country unfolded. Cape Town delivered on the international stage. 🇿🇦

Eliud Kipchoge has more accolades in running than we could ever count, but one thing he had never done was share a start line with his wife Grace. 👥

On Sunday 24 May, that changed. While Eliud raced with the elite field for the first time on African soil, Grace was making her own history, crossing the blue carpet for the very first time in her life as a marathon runner.

This is Grace’s marathon story. 💙

That’s a wrap on the 2026 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon. 🏅

Words don’t quite do it justice. The early mornings, the kilometres, the nerves at the start line, and then that moment when everything you have worked for becomes real as you cross the blue carpet.

From Beach Road to Sea Point, through Woodstock, Salt River and the Company Gardens, this city gave everything it had this weekend. And so did you.

Every finish line crossed, every personal best, every Peace Runner who took to the streets, every first-time marathon runner who dared to dream. This weekend we showed South Africa, Africa, and the world exactly what we are made of. This is what our journey to becoming Africa’s first Major looks like. And this weekend proved we are ready. 🌍💙

And just like that, the final finisher has crossed the line, and we’ve tied the finishing bow on a pretty damn perfect day. 🎀

We couldn’t be more proud. Of everyone.

Runners, you did that. You ran your hearts out and made us all believe in the strength of the human spirit a little bit more than we did this morning. There’s nowhere that grit, determination and one heck of a community won’t get you. 🙌❤️

And well, you know what we’re all collectively aiming at. Fingers crossed. 🤞 Watch this space.

42.2km. Thousands of steps. But who really did more… the runners or the fans? 👀😅

Cape Town came alive today and the streets reminded every single runner why they do this. The cheers, the energy, the pure joy of a city united.

This race belongs to all of you. 🌍🏃‍♀️❤️

Our bus drivers put in everything today, running well within themselves so their passengers could cross that finish line. They didn’t run for a finish time. They ran for every single person on board.

Self-sacrificial, energetic, and utterly loved by this community, bus drivers are the unsung heroes of race day.

To every bus driver on the road today - we see you. We appreciate you. We love you. 🙌🚌❤️
