We all find ourselves caught in the web of gender-based violence and femicide, one way or another. We all know someone who is a victim or a survivor of violence whether we are aware of it or not. We must acknowledge that strategies and plans are nothing without action and that actions need political will and resources.
A collective effort means government, civil society, faith-based organizations, the private sector, members of society all pulling together to fight a common enemy; domestic and gender-based violence, abuse and femicide.
This includes men and women, boys and girls. The consequences cut across gender lines.
GOOD leadership calls on Government’s support to prioritize organizations and initiatives that are doing the hard work on the ground on behalf of victims and survivors.
If women are empowered economically, the unequal power relationship will be reduced and this can give females the financial independence to stop tolerating abuse.
As GOOD Leader Patricia De Lille so eloquently put it, “Gender-based violence is a disease that infects the whole of society. There is no vaccine. It requires a whole of society response.”
