Soundboy business 🔥
Delhi Sultanate on the mic for BFR Sound System, delivering real dub education. Word, sound, power. No apology.
Dub was invented in Kingston in the seventies, when engineers started stripping tunes down to bass and drum and rebuilding them live on the controls. Foundation dub was so far ahead of its time that it still sounds ahead of ours sometimes. Augustus Pablo, King Tubby, Lee Perry. Visionary music by visionary people.
And then came dancehall, where the mic became the instrument and a soundman lived by what he could do with it. Taru Dalmia has spent the last few decades at this intersection as Delhi Sultanate.
In 2016 it finally culminated into BFR Sound System.
A people’s sound system in the truest sense, crowdfunded into existence and hand built, Jamaican style, loaded into a red van. Since then it has travelled to some of the most remote parts of India, bringing reggae, dancehall and soundboy culture to spaces that were waiting for it.
We celebrate 10 years of BFR Sound System this year! big anniversary dance on 18 October
