ERYRI 25K - Route Change
The ERYRI 25K race was changed to a lower-level alternative route due to extreme weather forecasts for Sunday, ensuring the safety of runners, marshals, and mountain resources. A change in route is a final resort, and we would like to thank all the runners for their patience and understanding. Diolch!
Event Medical Director, Dr Natalya Kennedy, Shelter Stone Medical. “Weather conditions (carefully monitored overnight by Event Control) forecast precipitation and temperatures, including wind chill on the summit, which would have significantly increased the risk of a major incident. A storm with risk of lightning was forecast to come across sooner than we’d hoped, potentially affecting the summit areas when the last runners and Mountain Safety Team marshals would still have been on the hill.
With an alternative route available, UTMB made the decision to avoid unnecessary risk to participants, staff members, and local Mountain Rescue resources. We fully support this decision, which was made after careful consultation with all stakeholders.”
Event Route Director, Kev “In collaboration with the event’s safety and medic teams, and with consideration for Llanberis MRT, the course was rerouted to avoid the summit of Snowdon. The new route included an addition of the 726m Moel Eilio, giving runners a true Eryri mountain experience.”
Thank you to the local Mountain Rescue, partners, volunteers, and runners for making another unforgettable Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB!
