Prairie On Fire Backyard Ultra MTC's PRAIRIE ON FIRE, Central Indiana's first Backyard Ultra is back for the 2nd year. What is a Backyard Ultra?

Chances are, if you're here, you already know, but, in case you don't, here's a breakdown from the originators:

"Backyard ultra is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run the distance of 6706 meters (4.167 miles) in less than one hour. When each lap is completed, the remaining time within the hour is typically used to recover for the next hour’s race." Now, here's what makes our backyard unique:

The Prairie on Fire backyard ultra derives its name from a prominent park in central Indiana that hosts our event, Hamilton counties Koteewi Park. Pronounced ko-TAY-wee, Koteewi means “fire” and possibly “prairie” in the Miami-Peoria language. That etymology and the potential for a hot September day in Indiana created a perfect storm for us when naming this event. We couldn't be more excited to have the course at it's intended location with a beautiful gravel/dirt trail during the day and a paved trail in the evening. Thank you Hamilton County Parks and Recreation for partnering with us. This race will feature a very limited number of participants in effort to limit congestion on the trail, so sign up today!

The runners were hit with a lot of rain and overcast skies early in the day. The rain let up and the humidity blanketed the prairie. Then the sun came out and it is now quite toasty.
