A (first ever) post-race report from the Race Director, Tom’s Cairn Trail Races 2025
Fraser Reid broke the 5K record in a spectacular 18.25 and the first female runner was young Alice Matthews. Daniel Christie won the 10K in 42.55 with Stuart Pringle just 5 seconds behind. Paula Hohensee was first lady (and Vet 40) in 51.32. We hope Stuart wasn’t too tired after his exertions given his shift as a firefighter later that day! My observation is that whilst we attract all standards of runner to these races, we seem to be attracting more faster club runners over the last couple of years. Some may not believe this but to a hill runner, this is a ‘flat’ course! We don’t want to scare away the less serious runner, that’s for sure.
We had a record breaking 65 runners in the kids 1km race. Everyone got a race number, a finisher’s medal and ice cream!
The 2025 event was… eventful!
We had two lost runners and some escaped cows on the course, providing an added thrill to 10K runners. Thankfully, we were well covered with marshals, quad bikes and radios so runners were recovered and cows returned to their rightful field with no harm done.
This race is organised by the Parent Council of Ballogie Nursery and Finzean School and we were helped out by so many volunteers I can’t name them here; however special thanks do go to Finzean Estate and Birse and Feughside Church for access to the start/finish and the course. Thanks also for the many local businesses who donated some fantastic prizes! All their names are on our website www.tomscairntrailrace.com. We raised some valuable funds which will be used for teaching materials and school activities.
Thanks to all runners,
Andrew
