Fuel contamination is one of the most common causes of generator failure in the critical power industry and yet it’s still widely misunderstood. Let’s clear up a few persistent myths.

Myth 1️⃣ “New fuel is always clean.”
Even fresh diesel can contain water, debris and microbial spores before it ever reaches your tank.

Myth 2️⃣ “If the generator runs, the fuel must be fine.”
Contamination often builds slowly. By the time performance is affected, damage may already be done to injectors, filters and engines.

Myth 3️⃣ “Water in fuel is easy to spot.”
Free water might be visible. However, emulsified water and microbial growth usually aren’t, and they’re just as harmful.

Myth 4️⃣ “Occasional filter changes are enough.”
Standard filtration alone won’t remove sludge, bacteria or long-term contamination from stored fuel.
