THIS ONE HITS A LITTLE CLOSER TO HOME!

As we continue recognizing the incredible basketball programs throughout Muskingum County and surrounding communities, this particular recognition holds a special place in the heart of Gus Macker Zanesville.

Why?

Because our Executive Char is a proud 2013 graduate of West Muskingum High School! 💙💛

And seeing the Tornadoes make a historic run to the State Final Four is something worth celebrating!

🏆 A SEASON TO REMEMBER!

🏀 23–6 overall record

🏆 Division V District Champions

🏆 Division V Regional Champions

🔥 First State Final Four appearance in school history!

🏀 An unforgettable overtime victory against St. Clairsville!

🏀 A regional championship victory over Ironton!

⭐ Noah Morrison delivered unforgettable postseason moments, including the game-winning shot against St. Clairsville and the go-ahead basket against Ironton!

⭐ Kyle Porter, a 1,000-point career scorer, helped lead this historic group.

⭐ Carter Smith made major contributions on both ends of the floor, including 12 points, 11 rebounds, and a crucial defensive play against St. Clairsville.

For our Executive Chair, this recognition is more than basketball. It's personal.

West Muskingum will always be part of his story, and seeing the next generation of Tornadoes accomplish something so significant is a reminder of why investing in our local communities and young people matters.

Personal message from Dom : As a 2013 graduate , I just want to express how proud I am of this historic basketball team and our entire school district.

I remember the struggles during my time at West Muskingum and even though I was not a "lifer", the years that I was there, expectations were not good. Now, winning is a standard. I LOVE IT!

That's why seeing this team reach the STATE FINAL FOUR means so much. It makes me wish I was in high school now!

Once a Tornado, always a Tornado! 💙💛

THE MAYSVILLE PANTHERS | 2023–2026
AN ERA THAT SOUTH TOWN WILL NEVER FORGET. 🐾

Every once in a while, a group of young men comes through a school and accomplishes something so special that you know people will still be talking about them 30 or 40 years from now.

For Maysville, that group just walked across the graduation stage a few months ago.

And that's what makes this one so special to recognize.

We didn't have to read about this team in a history book. We got to witness it ourselves.

Let's appreciate just how remarkable this era of Maysville basketball truly was.

🏆 2024 — State Runner-Up
🏆 2025 — Division IV STATE CHAMPIONS
🏆 2026 — State Final Four
🔥 THREE CONSECUTIVE FINAL FOUR APPEARANCES
🏀 103–11 RECORD FOR THE CLASS OF 2026
⭐ Gator Nichols — Maysville's All-Time Leading Scorer
🏀 2025 State Championship Victory over Cleveland Glenville, 74–67

Just think about that for a moment.

103 wins and only 11 losses.

Three straight trips to the Final Four.

A state championship.

For a school and community like Maysville, those aren't just basketball accomplishments. That's history.

But what we really want to recognize isn't just what happened on the scoreboard.

It's what this group meant to South Town.

It's the packed gyms. The students cheering. The parents and grandparents traveling to games. The conversations at work the following morning. The excitement around town when everybody knew the Panthers had another big game coming up.

In 2024, they came so close to winning it all.

They could have allowed that disappointment to define them.

Instead, they came back.

In 2025, they finished the job and brought home a state championship.

And in 2026, they returned to the Final Four one more time, completing one of the greatest stretches of basketball this area has ever witnessed.

That kind of consistency doesn't happen by accident.

We want to give tremendous credit to Head Coach Dave Brown, his coaching staff, and every person who helped develop these young men throughout their basketball journeys.

We also want to recognize players like Gator Nichols, Jordyn Watson, Kane Roehrig, Landon Iden, Kade Rock, and every teammate who contributed to this historic run.

Every player had a role. Every practice mattered. Every sacrifice helped build something bigger than any one individual.

And to the families who supported these young men through the early mornings, late nights, long drives, victories, and disappointments, this legacy belongs to you as well.

At Gus Macker Zanesville, we believe our local basketball history deserves to be celebrated.

We have so many incredible players, teams, and coaches who have represented Muskingum County over the years. Some of their accomplishments happened decades ago, and some, like this one, are still fresh in our memories.

Sometimes greatness comes from right down the road. Sometimes it comes from South Town.

And when we talk about the greatest teams and basketball eras in Maysville history, this group has certainly earned its place at the very top of that conversation.

We sincerely hope to see some of you reunite on the courts when Gus Macker returns to Zanesville in 2027! 👀🏀

It would be something special to see some of those Panthers playing together again, this time right here in our community.

📸 A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO STORIED RIVALS

We also want to sincerely thank Storied Rivals for allowing us to share these incredible images.

Storied Rivals has done an incredible job capturing moments that these players, their families, and this community will cherish for years to come.

Although their season ended without the opportunity to compete for a state championship, nothing can take away what these young ladies accomplished!
They represented Dresden, Tri-Valley, and Muskingum County with excellence and showed what teamwork, dedication, and determination can accomplish.
