iFFY is THIS MONTH, Thursday, April 16-Saturday, April 18! Let's zoom in on the programs one by one these next couple days.

Opening night festivities for iFFY Season 7 start at 7:30 pm on April 16 with MICHIGAN-ISH, a broad selection of short films from our mittened little corner of the world! For the last several years, we've been proud to feature a variety of filmmakers from in (or, in at least one case, quite near) Michigan for this program, which has become one of our most popular! This edition features shorts by Toko Shiiki, Darius Quinn, Gunnar Applebaum, Christopher Slat, Alexi Tsitlakidis, Andrew Frank Iacobelli, Abigail Conley, Caitlyn Shaw, Jeremy Brockman, Maurizio Dominguez, Heidi Kumao, Julia Yezbick, Seth Thompson, and Na Forest Lim.

NEW iFFY T-SHIRTS OFFICIALLY EXIST! Once again, our sponsors show that they are THE place for T-shirt and poster printing in SE Michigan. We simply couldn't ask for better, and we are all so lucky to have such a world-class print shop here in town!

This year's design is by and Dustin Krcatovich, and is ably modelled here by our festival director Micah Vanderhoof. All shirts are Comfort Colors shirts in the colors graphite (seen here) and Crimson. These shirts will only be available at iFFY events next month, so come out to the fest and be sure to stop by the merch table!

This year’s trailer was assembled by local filmmaker Micah Vanderhoof (), who we’re happy to report is also iFFY’s festival director and the programmer behind this year’s horror shorts program WICKED GAME. One week before iFFY, on April 11 at 7:30p, we're partnering with for a very special program at .freighthouse!

For Frames and Frequencies, the improvisational musical collective Resonant Soundscapes (Marcus Elliot, Michael Malis, Garrett Schumann, Sara Tea, Chien-An Yuan, and Julie Zhu) will provide a live score for short silent films by SE Michigan filmmakers Peter Leix, Toko Shiiki, Terri Sarris, Cole Greenberg, Jack Cronin, Jen Proctor, Joel Stralnic, Peter Sparling, and Thomas Javier Castillo. It's sure to be a remarkable collision of image and sound!

Tickets are pay what you can starting at $5, and are available at ums.org. This will be a crowded one, so don't sleep on it!

NOW SEEKING SUBMISSIONS! Independent Film Festival Ypsilanti is partnering with UMS for a special collaborative program on Saturday, April 11th, and we’re looking for short, silent or non-scored (no music) videos by filmmakers who live and/or work in Washtenaw County. Selected films will have a live score performed by seasoned local experimental musicians at the Ypsilanti Freighthouse!

Parameters and Key Dates:

-Video entries must be between 5-12 minutes in length.

-Submitting filmmakers must live and/or work in Washtenaw County and own the copyright to the video.

-Video entries may be from any time period, and may include works from the filmmaker’s archives, extra scenes from current or prior projects, unfinished pieces, or even excerpts from longer films!

-Video entries must be silent or have no music (dialogue is okay) in order to be considered. Selected pieces will be scored live by musicians at the UMS/iFFY screening.

-Works that are dynamic and visually compelling to perform with a live score will receive the strongest consideration.

Submissions must be submitted as an H.264 encoded .mov or .mp4 wrapped video file, and must be uploaded to this folder by no later than March 1, 2026: https://mailchi.mp/iffypsi/iffy-ums-live-score-event-call-for-submissions

After the submission deadline, a limited number of the films will be selected by our programmers and the performing musicians. All submitting filmmakers will be informed if their film has been selected by March 15, 2026.

All filmmakers whose work appears at this event will receive a $250 stipend for the screening of their work. We look forward to seeing what you have to offer, Washtenaw filmmakers!

More pre-Season 7 fun, ahoy! On Sunday, March 1 iFFY is taking over the Cinemania double feature night at for a very special night of '90s punk cinema classics: Danny Plotnick's I'M NOT FASCINATING THE MOVIE (starring '90s Bay Area ape-fi freaks THE ICKY BOYFRIENDS) and Sarah Jacobson's MARY JANE'S NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE (coming to us courtesy of the genre cinema heroes at )! These are two high points of the true independent cinema of the 1990s, and a joy to share on the big screen. We hope to see you there!

As a bonus, we will also be sharing extremely rare '80s short doc HARDCORE, about the Ann Arbor hardcore scene, directed by real-life SKATE WITCH (and co-owner) Dana Forrester, as well as some bonus Plotnick videos and shorts. Could this all be portending things to come for iFFY Season 7? You'll have to show up to find out! 😉

We're a little late to acknowledge (it's been a busy week at iFFY HQ!), but last week's benefit show at was incredible! Thanks to everyone who came out in the coldest weather in six years(!) to vibe on the sounds of , and , and to donate a whopping $780 to iFFY Season 7! Everything was such a blur, we didn't even get pics of the raffle winners, one of whom got a T-shirt and the other a season pass.

We LOVE you, Ypsi! Stay tuned for an announcement about another event at Ziggy's on March 1.
