Drum Boogie Festival

Drum Boogie Festival A Free World-Class Music Festival with Dance & Voice
Saturday, September 9, 2017
Andy Lee Field, Woodstock, NY

The Drum Boogie Festival www.drumboogiefestival.com is a free, one-day music festival which is family-oriented and multi-cultural, celebrating the diverse styles of music, dance and voice from around the world. It will take place on September 9th, 2017 from 11 AM to 8 PM at Andy Lee Field, Woodstock, NY. The festival brings together world-class talent while introducing the audience to a variety of

styles involving percussion such as: Jazz, Rock, Contemporary, Eastern, African, Steel Pan and more. This year’s festival will include Jack DeJohnette; NEXUS; SO Percussion, Steve Gorn, Beatbox House, The Big Takeover and much more. The Opening Ceremony of the fifth Drum Boogie Festival is at 11 AM. “Music is a universal language helping to erase lines of hatred and bigotry through the exchange of diverse cultures” said Garry Kvistad, Executive Director of the Drum Boogie Festival (Founder/CEO of Woodstock Chimes® and NEXUS member). This event is part of a continuing effort on the part of the producing entity of the festival, the Woodstock Chimes Fund, to help recognize Ulster County as a major destination for art and cultural activities. The Drum Boogie Festival helps support Family of Woodstock. The idea of this festival came in 2008 in meetings with New York State Assemblyperson Kevin Cahill and Garry Kvistad to help develop interest and understanding for the public of percussion music and the benefits of rhythm in our lives. Percussion music is the most common form of instrumental music around the world and yet is still not known in its entirety in many parts of the globe. There is more diversity in world percussion than any other instrument and the Drum Boogie Festival reflects that diversity. And… there’s more to Drum Boogie than just drumming; it’s song, dance, food, family fun, & it’s FREE!

Here's a nice treat from Nexus Percussion, including our own Garry Kvistad! This is a John Cage piece that was discovered in the early 2000s, over 60 years after it was written. It's the first movement of “Dance Music for Elfride Ide” from the NEXUS CD "The City Wears a Slouch Hat." https://youtu.be/m-0sqPUC8NY
