Runners with Crew — This Is for You!
Driving directions are available for download on our website. (http://www.olddominionrun.com/Documents/PitCrewDirections.pdf) We strongly recommend downloading and printing them, as GPS service in the Fort Valley area is unreliable at best. If the weather is cloudy, signal quality can be even worse. In addition, we have taken time to write the directions to ensure the best and safest route is taken to each aid station.
The directions assume you are leaving from the start line and heading to meet your runner at the first crew-accessible aid station. If you plan to skip any aid stations or will not be starting from the start area, you may need to make minor adjustments to the directions. A helpful course map is included on Page 2 of the driving instructions.
🚗Parking at Aid Stations
Additional parking information is included on the driving instruction sheets, but here is more detailed information.
Location #1 (770/758)
Park along the roadside, staying as far off the roadway as possible.
Location #2 (Four Points #1)
Please approach this aid station slowly.
The aid station will be on your right. All vehicles must drive past the aid station, continue until there is a safe location to turn around, and then return to park on the opposite side of the aid station (which will now be on your right-hand side). All vehicles must park on the same side of the road.
There is also a driveway in this area that must remain open at all times. Failure to follow parking instructions at this aid station may jeopardize your runner's ability to continue in the race.
Location #3 (Four Points #2)
Remain in the same location as Aid Station #2.
Location #4 (Edinburg Gap)
Park in the lot on the left. This aid station offers more space than most, but it is also a public ATV parking area. If the lot is full, additional roadside parking may be available nearby.
Location #5 (Little Fort)
This is a very challenging parking area, especially for larger vehicles.
We recommend NOT arriving several hours before your runner. The section between Aid Stations #4 and #5 is difficult, and runners typically take longer to reach this location. If crews arrive approximately an hour before their runner, traffic flow and parking should remain manageable.
An aid station volunteer will direct you to available parking. If the area becomes congested, you may be asked to drop off supplies or crew members, exit the area, park along the roadside, and walk back in. (Pro tip- use your extra time here to go into town and buy your runner their favorite hot food and surprise them with it at the Aid Station. They will need the moral boost when they see you!)
Location #6 (Elizabeth Furnace)
This location has ample parking and plenty of space.
If your runner has a safety runner, we recommend that they park here and arrange transportation back to their vehicle after finishing their pacing duties.
Location #7 (Veach West)
This is another very tight parking area.
Following parking instructions is critical, and failure to do so may jeopardize your runner's race. Drive down to the turnaround circle, turn around, then drive back out and park along the right side of the road. Expect the passenger side of your vehicle to be very close to the brush and bushes. ❗DO NOT PARK IN THE TURN AROUND.❗
If you are at this Aid station and hear of a safety runner needing a ride back to their car, lend a hand, since they left more room for you to park here!
Location #8 (770/758)
This is the same location as first crew aid station from the morning. Please park along the roadside while keeping the roadway as clear as possible.
Location #9 (Water Street)
There is plenty of roadside parking available.
Final Tips
Aid Station #1 is often the most challenging location for crews. Because it is their first stop of the day, crews are still learning the layout, and runners frequently arrive sooner than expected. We highly encourage new crews to drive to the first location on Friday so they feel comfortable navigating to the first aid station on race day.
Runners: consider placing a drop bag at the first crew aid (770/758) to ensure you have access to any critical gear or supplies in case your crew misses you.
Each Runner will receive 1 crew parking pass. Parking pass must be placed on the outside of the windshield for optimal nighttime visibility. Placed on passenger's side top corner for the duration of the event. If the sticker is not on the vehicle at the aid station, someone may place one on the window. Supplies to remove stickers will be available during award ceremony.
Thank you crew for all you do for all the runners and helping us keep the day running smoothly. See you at the Aid Stations!
