Congratulations to Alex Goldin's 5-year-old gelding pacer Naturalborn Leader who won Saturday's $8,000 conditioned pace at Shenandoah Downs --- named in honor of VFW Post 2447 in Edinburg! As part of Military Day festivities, donation checks were given out to several local military-related organizations courtesy of the track and the U.S. Harness Drivers Club. The Club members direct driving fees they ordinarily would have received into a fund which supports local non-profits in the area. Members of Post 2447 accepted a check on behalf of the organization.

Racing resumes in Woodstock this Saturday & Sunday. The first 500 fans 18 & older Saturday receive a free commemorative baseball cap!

Attention Shenandoah Downs racing fans, staff & horsemen --- due to the extended period of rain in the forecast for tonite & tomorrow, the race program at Shenandoah Downs for tomorrow (Sunday October 11) has been cancelled. The Wiener Dog Derby has been rescheduled as a result, for Saturday October 24 as part of the Pink Power Breast Cancer Awareness card. Racing resumes in Woodstock next Saturday October 17

Shenandoah Downs heads into weekend number four of its 2026 fall meet in Woodstock and will host a pair of 14-race cards this Saturday and Sunday (October 10, 11) at 1:05 PM and 11:00 AM respectively.

Saturday's card features a special "Pigskin & Ponies" promotion where six fans that wear a jersey, shirt or hat that sports a logo of their favorite football team will have a chance to "Own a Horse for a Day" and win their share of a $5,000 purse!

Saturday is also Military Day where active & retired armed forces members will receive a free racing program & free $2 wager. The Massanutten Academy will present colors on the track after the third race. And special donation checks will be awarded to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 936, VWF Post 2447 and AMVETS Post 11.

Looking forward to weekend racing at Shenandoah Downs with a pair of 14-race cards both Saturday & Sunday! Saturday is Military Appreciation Day --- all active & retired military members will receive a free racing program and a free $2 bet in addition to free admission. The Massanutten Academy will present colors on the track after the third race followed by the National Anthem. We'll also be giving donation checks to three great local organizations: VFW Post 2447, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 936 and to AMVETS Post 11. Hope to see lots of heroes at the track on Saturday!

Meet Shenandoah Downs outrider Richard Chandler who ships in from Maryland every race weekend to provide a measure of safety for the harness horses & drivers that compete in Woodstock. Richard is pictured with his outriding horse --- 18-year-old Boomer --- who is quick to catch any loose horses on the track or to help a pacer or trotter get comfortable before the start of a race. The fall racing season continues this Saturday & Sunday with a pair of 14-race cards. Post time Saturday is 1:05 PM and Sunday is at 11:05 AM. Wiener dog races will take place from 2:00 - 3:15 PM in between horse races 10-14. Details are at shenandoahdowns.com.

Congratulations to Chrissy Johnson's Andy's Disaster who kicked off today's Virginia Sire Stake Championship Day card at Shenandoah Downs with a big win in the $102,425 Two-Year-Old C**t Trot! The Winning Fireworks gelding is owned by Dylan Havens of Bland, VA and was driven to victory by Johnson. The winner matched his previous best time of 2:03.0 with a 1-3/4 length victory over Tracy Bradshaw's TNT Jabony. Iconic race caller Roger Huston --- who announces the Shenandoah County Fair harness races every summer --- presented a trophy to the winning connections. Racing action in Woodstock continues Sunday with a 14-race card beginning at 1:05 PM (Quenton Egan action photo).

We're a little more than one week away from the annual Wiener Dog Derby at Shenandoah Downs and there's still time to register your dachshund to compete in what should be a fun afternoon for families! Wiener dogs will compete on Sunday October 11 --- on the track itself in front of the grandstand --- in between harness races.

Some of the dachshunds entered already include Linus Pawley, Sally Darling Brown, Rufus, Carmy Bell, Clover, Ginger, Turbo Glizzy, Maple, Bourbon, Ragnar, Vulcan, Otis, Walter, Maizey, Tucker, Laney, Moose, Cooper, Louise, Mr. Dillon, Barney Rubbles, Wilma, Harley, Duncan and others.

To register, e-mail [email protected]. First harness race that day is 1:05 PM and dogs will begin competing after the fourth race, at 2:00 PM. Admission for fans and participants is free. Concession specials include $1 hot dogs & $2 canned b**r.
