Demonstrator Spotlight - the Peachtree Handspinners Guild

The Peachtree Handspinners Guild is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and perpetuation of the art of handspinning, to the promotion of interest in spinning through education, and to providing instruction and social life in spinning.
Learn: Where to go for information, classes, workshops & equipment
Meet: Other handspinners with similar interests and goals.
Share: Information, tips, techniques and the love of the craft.
 
The Guild meets the FOURTH SATURDAY of the month at North Decatur Presbyterian Church. The meetings are from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, with changes posted in the newsletter published monthly. Occasionally, we meet on the third Saturday because of holidays or special events. Please check the calendar for details.

* Participation in several events throughout the year demonstrating.
* Weekend Retreats to spend time with other spinners socializing and spinning.
* Distaff Day Gathering: Spinners honor the tradition of returning to the daily chore of spinning in January after the holiday season with, of course, a party!

Vendor Highlight! - Meltwater Studio!

Coming to the Marigold Fiber Fest

Science and art are complimentary interests of Breeanna Urbanowicz, a textile artist specializing in ice-based tie dying. She mainly dyes flour sack towels and vintage textiles.

A little from the artist:
I am a scientist that specializes in cellulosics and plant carbohydrates, so I find dying these materials fun as a hobby.

This workshop opportunity is being taught by beloved fiber artist Paula Vester! She has been playing with fiber for decades and her knowledge is vast! If you are a GA RenFest frequenter, Paula is often the gal behind the spinning wheel with a dye pit bubbling out front!
This class will be a warm and welcoming intro to natural dyes so take the moment and sign up before the opportunity is gone!

Vendor Highlight! - Linden Hill Farm & Fiber Mill!

We are thrilled to have a local fiber mill as a vendor for the first Marigold Fiber Fest! Mills play a critical role in every local fiber shed and we wholly support the work Linden Hill Farm and Fiber is doing!

Linden Hill Farm & Fiber is a small-batch fiber mill built to serve shepherds, homesteaders, Handspinners and fiber artists

A little from mill owners Scott and Cher Wilner: “We believe every fleece has a story that is as unique as the animals, shepherds, farms and fiber artists behind it. Every maker deserves thoughtful, transparent processing that honors their work from pasture to finished project.”

Megan Sullivan makes and sells stoneware ceramics made to be used everyday, often with designs inspired by nature. For this to festival she plans to make knitting bowls and ceramic buttons!

Exciting Last Minute Workshop Addition!!! - Join Delia Fian and weave Iris Leaf Baskets

Iris Leaf Baskets: learn to transform invasive yellow flag iris leaves into whimsical teensy baskets, using the meditative twining technique and various intricate weaves. Up to 10 participants. $80/student + $20 material fee.

A little from Delia:
Gathering material from waste spaces at the edge of the human world - roadside thickets, power line cuts, and abandoned lots, I harvest plants considered invasive and a nuisance, to transform them into beautiful and useful works of art. My baskets are for everyday life - for holding, for carrying, for weaving relationship and wonder into the seemingly mundane. My baskets combine traditional as well as explorative techniques to weave forms that are useful and appropriate for our world today, while whispering of a future where baskets again take a central role in daily life. My baskets carry hope for the future in a changing world and the gifts that lay hidden in forgotten spaces.
