TREAD — One of Colorado’s most controversial stories comes to the big screen.

On June 13th, the Winter Park Film Festival is bringing Tread to The Foundry for a special community screening.

Pushed to his breaking point, Granby welder Marvin Heemeyer transformed a bulldozer into an armored machine and carried out one of the most infamous acts in Colorado history. Tread dives deep into the events, the people, and the questions that still divide communities decades later.

This screening goes beyond the film itself. Special guests featured in the documentary—and individuals whose lives were directly impacted by Heemeyer’s actions—will be joining us for the event, offering a rare opportunity to hear firsthand perspectives from those who lived through the events that changed Granby forever.

At the Winter Park Film Festival, we bring in some of the best filmmakers in the world to share their knowledge and experiences with our community. In 2024, we had the honor of welcoming Kent Harvey, who generously shared stories from his career working on some of the largest-budget films ever made. Widely respected as one of the world’s most accomplished camera operators, Kent brought an incredible depth of insight to our audiences. As a Colorado local, his presence made the experience even more meaningful.

We’re grateful for the time and wisdom he shared, and we hope you’ll join us next year for the inspiring keynote masterclasses that have become a cornerstone of the festival.

“Pitre highlighted the success of “God As My Witness” at Winter Park Film Festival as a landmark in her career, noting that the film fit in well with one of the festival’s central themes this year: confronting mental health challenges.”

A Tabernash filmmaker has been recognized internationally for her breakout feature film “God As My Witness,” which analyzes a generations-long molestation scandal involving the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

Preserving her own mental health — and that of her crew — was crucial throughout the process, she said. But Pitre also saw the work as necessary, a way to bring survivors together and open up difficult conversations.

“This documentary is allowing people to understand that they are not alone,” Pitre said. “There are resources. People can talk about it.”
