A team of Associates coordinated by Bob McNair served an overflow crowd of student performers and crew at the 2022 NUTCRACKER FEED on Saturday, Dec. 10. This year, because all ballet students were required to be at the Stevens Center—including those not on the program that day—an additional 40-50 students had to be fed. At one point, the line extended halfway around the 10th-floor conference room. But serving proceeded quickly and effortlessly—to the students’ delight. They dined on pasta from the Sherwood restaurant; sandwiches and fruit from Lowe’s Foods; salad, grilled chicken and tofu from Aramark Food Services; iced tea from Salem Kitchen; and cookies from the Associates. Many expressed their gratitude while others had their pictures taken with volunteers. Within an hour or so, more than 160 people had enjoyed a Nutcracker lunch, including students, Stevens Center management and staff, security officers, and Associates volunteers, McNair said. The Associates returned to the Stevens Center Saturday, Dec. 11, to host our annual "Nutcracker Feed,” serving a meal for the cast and crew between the noon and 5:30 p.m. performances. Volunteers led by Bob McNair secured donations from local restaurants and vendors to provide turkey, pasta, sandwiches, salads, fruit, rolls and drinks for the energetic students, and numerous Associates contributed cookies. Joining Bob on the Nutcracker Feed Team were Amy Orser, Becky Brown, Judy McNair, Joy Warlick, Ken Davis, Vicki Davis, Pam Short, Danny Spillman, Tim Bohon, and Judy Scurry. Anna Goodman conducted interviews for the Associates newsletter. Contributing vendors: Sherwood Restaurant, Aramark, Lowes Foods and Salem Kitchen. Photography by Dave Eshelman

It's official! Brian Cole was Inaugurated Friday morning, Oct. 1, as the 9th Chancellor of UNCSA. It was also a big day for the Associates as we resumed giving in-person guided tours of the UNCSA campus. Here, Chancellor Cole and Associates volunteer Bob McNair chat as guests line up for tours after a picnic luncheon in Daniels Plaza. Individuals and groups can schedule a tour by sending an email request to [email protected].

This summer, in preparation for a busy Fall and hopefully a modified post-pandemic 2021-2022 season, Strategic Planning Team members Mindy Bloom, Bill Broadway, Anna Goodman, Jon Hyland, John Lee, Nola Miller, Allen Smart and Steve Zorn began monthly meetings to review the mission and programs of the Associates. John Lee has been facilitating the meetings and non-voting members Becky Brown, Sandy Broadway and Judy Watson joined the discussion. Early work has included evaluating our strengths and weaknesses and examining new opportunities. The team will present its findings to the Associates Board at the conclusion of the process, possibly the first of next year. Special thanks to UNCSA advancement staff Anne Watkins and Shannon Wright for their support. Photos by Bill Broadway.
