The Marquis de Lafayette is coming to French Heritage Day! There are celebrations of the bicentennial of Lafayette's journey across America happening all throughout the state that weekend. Check out a precursor event happening this Friday!
The Joint Vermont House/Senate Lafayette resolution recognizing his 1825 visit will be read on the House floor when they convene on Friday morning. For anyone interested, including the public, we will meet in the Cedar Creek room on the second floor of the statehouse, where the Lafayette panels will be set up to help spread the message about Lafayette's visit to America and significance in supporting American independence. We will proceed to the House gallery on the same floor (or a floor above depending on numbers) and watch the House Speaker gavel in and begin the business of the day at around 9:30am. The proclamation, which was sponsored by every member, should be read shortly thereafter, followed by announcements, where we may be recognized by the body. There is an open cafeteria is anyone wants food/coffee before or after the reading. Parking is available on State Street or in a public lot behind the Capitol Plaza hotel across and down State Street from the Statehouse.
