From the Fox Files 🎬✨

One of the Fox Theatre’s most charming original features was its “modern cry room,” tucked above the stadium-style seating so parents with fussy little moviegoers could still be part of the show.

A viewing window, speakers, bottle warmers, and red plush chairs? That’s a clever little piece of 1950s theater design, right here in Winfield. ❤️

The Fox Theatre’s original marquee was a true Main Street showpiece.

Measuring 32 feet wide, 5 feet high, and extending 13 feet out over the sidewalk, it was built to be noticed.

In its early days, yellow neon moved in a dramatic “waterfall” effect, catching eyes and drawing moviegoers toward the entrance.

Today, that same marquee still reaches proudly over the sidewalk, still lights up downtown Winfield, and still brings a little theater magic to Main Street.

The old projection booth had its own toilet because the projectionist couldn’t leave the projector during the movie!

It’s a quirky little fact, but it tells a bigger story: the Fox Theatre was built to keep the magic going.

Today, Marquee Performing Arts Center is working to renew this historic space for future generations. As a nonprofit, that work depends on community interest, generosity, and support.

Step back to 1950, when the Fox Theatre brought a brand-new kind of movie magic to downtown Winfield. Built in the Modern Style, the Fox lit up Main Street with bold design, glowing marquee lights, and the promise of “The Theatre of Tomorrow for Today.” Today, that same historic building continues its next act as the Marquee Performing Arts Center.

Today is the last day for Christmas Tree highlights and the last day to purchase raffle tickets! For our last tree we are showcasing the “Santa Knows” tree. It is a charming vintage inspired Christmas tree brought to you by the Emporium. It has a lot of wonderful traditional ornaments like miniature nutcrackers, antique style Santa’s, and burgundy baubles.

Just a few reminders about today we are going to be selling raffle tickets in person from 4PM- 7PM. We will be selling them before and after the Lighted Christmas parade. Then at 7:30 we will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the historic FOX theater. Please come on down to celebrate with us!

This Christmas Tree really reminds us of a sweet treat that is a pillar of Christmas! The Gingerbread “Tree’t” is by the City of Winfield. This tree is packed with some adorable Gingerbread men and houses. It has candy like garland that is a real sweet treat. Our question, does your family participate in any gingerbread building?
