James Wi******er was a Captain in the American REvolution in the Maryland line, 1776-1785; he became a Brigadier General in the War of 1812. General Wi******er was an early Tennessee Pioneer a Merchant, a Miller, a Land Developer in 1785 and the Founder of the City of Memphis. General Wi******er was the Speaker of the Tennessee Senate in 1796 and a Delegate to the North Carolina Convention to rati

fy the United States Constitution. By Act of the Tennessee Legislature on November 22, 1809, Wi******er, Tennessee was created as a seat of justice for Franklin county in honor of General James Wi******er for his inspiring patriotism and dedicated public service.
