Festival Latino will be taking place at 615 Ogden Park Road (where Market Street and Gordon Rd. meet)The celebration will give residents the opportunity to share in the diverse Latino cultures of the Cape Fear region. An increasingly popular event, organizers expect attendance at this y ear’s Festival
to hit new highs. Judging from how we've done in past years, we’re expecting more than 20,000 people to attend, said Lucy Vasquez, festival founder, leading advocate for the Latino community. It’s an opportunity for people with different languages and backgrounds to enjoy each other’s company, as well as their differences. Besides offering hungry crowds authentic cuisine from Latino countries - among them Puerto Rico, Mexico, Dominican Republic, , El Salvador, Cuba, Honduras and Colombia -- festival-goers also can enjoy:
*Entertainment; One stage to host Live Bands, Singers, Latin Dance groups performances coming in from all over North Carolina, Salsa Dance Contests, and lots of dancing with free dance lessons going on all day.
*Kids Fiesta activities in the children’s area; Piñatas every hour, Clowns, Mascots, balloons, giant inflatable rides, Shows every half hour and lots of games with prizes. The Great Mexican Hat Race every hour, so pass the Sombrero to your teammates in this wacky relay!
* Exhibitors; Many outreach agencies offering Latinos and other residents the opportunity to learn about community programs; Arts & Crafts; local and regional artists and craftsmen including those from Latin America; Big and small businesses are also present to reach out to this growing Latino community.
