BIG NEWS for the 2027 Novant Health Wilmington Marathon! 🎉
We’re excited to announce an important update for race weekend, the Marathon and Half Marathon start line is moving from Wrightsville Beach to the UNCW campus for 2027!
WHY THE MOVE?
With major bridge construction taking place in Wrightsville Beach, remaining at our previous start location would create significant challenges for race-day traffic, transportation, and runner access.
We want you to have the best race experience possible and we saw an opportunity to make a change that provides some major benefits for our runners!
The move to UNCW gives us:
Significantly More Parking
Runners will have access to substantially more parking near the start area, making race morning easier and more convenient.
Improved Race-Morning Logistics
The UNCW campus provides additional space for participant drop-off, transportation, staging, bathrooms, gear check, volunteers, and overall race operations.
A Great New Wilmington Start Location
UNCW is an important part of the Wilmington community, and we’re excited to incorporate the campus into Marathon Weekend.
Still the Wilmington Marathon You Love
While the start location is changing, runners will still experience an incredible course showcasing Wilmington and the Cape Fear region before finishing downtown with thousands of fellow runners, spectators, and supporters.
We know a start-line change is a big update, and we are working hard to make the transition as seamless as possible. More information regarding the new course, parking, transportation, start-line logistics, and race weekend details will be released as we get closer to February.
