When Bunny and I abandoned plans to open The Sorrow Drowner in Portland, OR in early 2019 we had no idea where we would land and the entire project felt in jeopardy.

We came back to live in NC for the first time in 14 years and eventually, after many trials and tribulations in the triangle, fell in love with a little black box theater near the film studios in Wilmington. It was a risk, a big one. With the invaluable guidance of , who took a rambling near-novella backstory I wrote and turned it into a spectacular concept, we built something I am truly, truly proud of. And you LOVED IT, our reviews and all of the amazing conversations we have had with our guests prove that.

We greatly appreciate all of you who have graced the Hallowed Halls of The Lemurian Institute so much. I’m happy to say this isn’t the last you have heard of our intrepid explorers. It’s a bittersweet ending to our time in Wilmington, but fret not! This is just the end of chapter one.

This weekend, we’re tossing the tiki torches aside and throwing “Oops! Wrong Party” — a celebration of everything not tiki! Think bright lights, wild tunes, and cocktails that break all the rules. Join us one last time at the Sorrow Drowner for a goodbye bash full of laughter, toasts, and mischief, until we raise anchor and set sail for our new west coast hideaway. Let’s drink, be silly, and make this final weekend legendary! 🍸🎉 Saturday Night, 6PM to 2AM

May 31, 2025 - Oops! Wrong Party — The Final Night at The Sorrow Drowner

It’s the end of the adventure, and we’re going out completely unprepared. Join us for one last unforgettable night as The Sorrow Drowner says goodbye to Wilmington the only way we know how—by throwing the wrong party on purpose.

Come dressed for anything but a tiki bar. Black tie gala? Apocalypse prep? Space mission? Ren fair? Hot yoga class? If it’s wildly inappropriate for tropical drinks and jungle beats, you’re doing it right.

There’s no more mystery, no more ancient curses—just one final night of laughter, cocktails, and chaos. Let’s send this ship off in style, even if we forgot to pack our adventure gear.

No more tiki. No more adventure. Just fun.

Apologies, dear patrons—I reported two weeks remaining when in fact there were three. I do not, as it turns out, own a calendar. I have only a cracked compass, a sundial, and an unshakable confidence in my own guesswork. Adventure, as always, is wildly imprecise. So three! Three weeks remain to visit our original location before we head west! Come see it while the seeing is good!

Since announcing we are relocating we have been going strong every weekend nonstop. Since it’s just the two of us, and as we had planned originally for last weekend to be our last, we will be taking this weekend off to recover from two extremely busy weeks and will be coming back with an announcement on operations in May next week!
