This page will be deleted on February 12th, 2024. COVID-19, with the Delta variant, remains an urgent health crisis for us all. Out of a preponderance of caution for our performing artists, staff, and audiences, we have made the decision to keep the ’62 Center’s performances closed to the general public. Onl

y masked campus community members with a valid Williams ID (yellow and purple) will be allowed to enter the building. The moment this health crisis abates, we will be reopening the ’62 Center to all community members. Please stay safe. The Faculty and Staff of the '62 Center recognize the original keepers of the lands on which Williams College resides; this land is territory of the Mohican Peoples, also known as the People of the Waters That are Never Still, and the Stockbridge-Munsee Community. We pay our respects to the Mohican Peoples, past and present, as well as future generations.

TONIGHT & TOMORROW | Apr 10 & 11 | 8 PM | MainStage

Weaving together live narration, masked performance, and choral dance, SECONDS, performed by THE MILLION UNDERSCORES (), is a theatrical exploration of the suspension of disbelief. The performance transforms the theater into an arena, delving into the different and complex ways that we see each other. Functioning also as a playful study of staged death through the lenses of comedy, horror, ritual, and dance, the audience is invited to join in a contemplation of the delicate line between life and death, connecting us with the ancient roots of theater as a spiritual act of collective unbecoming.

Join artists David Lane () and Molly Hess () for a hands-on puppet workshop inspired by the Berkshires Satellite Reef, a breathtaking crocheted coral undersea world teeming with sea turtles, fish, rays, sharks, and more.

Together, we'll breathe life into these crocheted creatures and explore how they swim, scuttle, and glide through their imaginary ocean. 🐒🦈🐟

At the end of the workshop, we'll share how you can get involved in the exhibit opening the following week as a reef puppeteer! πŸͺΈβœ¨

What happens in the space between life and death? πŸ’€

Seconds is comedy. Horror. Ritual. Dance. The Million Underscores () weaves masked performance, live narration, and choral movement into a night of theater that reaches back to its oldest, most spiritual roots.

Featuring texts from Tennessee Williams, Gertrude Stein, Can Xue, and more β€” this is a contemplation of how we see each other, carry each other, and let each other go. ✨

Wed, Mar 18 | 6 PM | LOCATION CHANGE: MainStage

In collaboration with WCMA (), join artist, writer, and poet Christine Wertheim at the β€˜62 Center for Theater and Dance for an engaging talk on the Berkshires Satellite Reef, opening in the β€˜62 Center this April. Part of the worldwide Crochet Coral Reef project she co-founded with Margaret Wertheim, she will trace the origins of the Reef as a global, community-driven artwork that uses crochet to envision marine ecologies, climate change, and collective care. The Berkshires iteration brings together local makers, environmental concerns, and feminist craft traditions, and highlights the ways participatory art can both honor scientific knowledge and celebrate creative collaboration. Wertheim invites audiences to consider how acts of making can foster connection, awareness, and an imaginative response to our changing planet.

Part theater and part installation, you’ll be roped into a pre-historic site of relics alongside four archaeologists and the ghost of Ophelia, examining a machine that propels the group forward yet traps them in a revolving history.

🎟️ Tickets will be released to the general public online Monday, March 9th, at 9AM – πŸ”— in bio.
