On Monday, we were able to donate $2,004 to our second beneficiary, the James River Association , thanks to our hard working volunteers, our generous sponsors, and our awesome racers. Their mission is to protect the James River and connect people to it. JRA monitors the river, responds to problems, seeks policy changes, and implements on-the-ground projects to restore the river’s health. They protect through the Watershed Restoration, James Riverkeeper, and River Advocacy programs. JRA also helps communities benefit from the river by increasing river access, supporting river-related events, and implementing volunteer projects. They connect through their Environmental Education and Community Conservation programs. These are just a few things JRA does to help protect the river we all know and love! For those that don’t know, our race course waters flow into the James River just past the Chick Bridge - and I’m sure you’ve all paddled in the James or one of its other tributaries at some point! Please follow their efforts at or online at www.thejamesriver.org. And maybe even consider volunteering as part of their monitoring program.
Special thanks to CEO, Bill Street and Donor Engagement Manager, Britt Kendrick for meeting with us at the Lower James River Education Center near Jamestown and for giving us a tour of their facilities.
