For those of you curious as to how we have room for beach camping!!!

Have you ever heard a story of how water used to flow under the boardwalk? It's true! Though it might sound unbelievable now, once upon a time, parts of the boardwalk sat right by the low tide line. Nowadays, we know the boardwalk is nearly a quarter-mile away from the water in some places.

How did that happen? Well, it's a bit complicated.

In southern New Jersey, sand moves southward towards Cape May because of currents, wind, and waves, all of which are connected. This process, called longshore drift, might ring a bell from your high school earth science classes (if you took one). Over time, sand erodes from beaches like Stone Harbor or Avalon and gathers in the Hereford Inlet. Waves and tidal currents then shape this sand into huge offshore sandbars, called ebb shoals. Sometimes, the Hereford Inlet "spits out" these shoals onto the North Wildwood shoreline, making it bigger. This phenomenon is known as a depositional episode.

This sediment eventually migrates towards Wildwood and Wildwood Crest – but wait, it.. stops at the end of the island? How is this possible? It’s simple. There's a stone jetty at the southern tip of the Wildwoods that inhibits the flow of sand to Cape May. Similar to a dam, this jetty traps sand in the Wildwoods, resulting in the abnormally wide beach.

A lot of people are asking what exactly is Oversand EXPO? Is is a Overlanding show? Is it just a camping on the beach? Is it a RV show? Is is a outdoor show? What is it?

Well it's a little bit of everything! It's everything you can do "OVER" "SAND" and more. Our goal for this event was NOT to be a hardcore Overlanding event, our goal was NOT to be a RV show, our goal was NOT to be a outdoor show. Our goal is to offer a little bit of everything! Lets face it, Wildwood NJ is definitely not on any hardcore Overlanders must do list, well unless maybe you can camp on the beach for the weekend! And when we say on the beach, we mean on the beach, not behind the dunes, not in some obscure area, ACTUALLY on the beach in your tent, your van, your RTT, your pop up, your pick up truck camper, your offroad trailer, or in one of our awesome Glamping tents provided by Adirondack Safari. We want to see everyone on the beach this May 3-5th. All families, friends, groups, clubs, Overlanders, Vanlifers, weekend warriors, car campers, etc... We want you to come camp on the beach with us!

Will there be vendors? Yes there will be vendors and food trucks. Being a first year event with zero attendance history it's tough to get big name vendors to hike across the country for a new event, BUT we are working hard to get some awesome vendors to attend. If you know a vendor that you would like to see at the event, please tag them in the comments below and we will do our best to get them there.

-We will have a nightly bonfire and live music both Friday and Saturday nights.
-We will have morning Yoga with Christine Alessi-DeClemente. Private classes available, please contact Christine directly.
-We will have some presentations from Off Road Consulting and Driving Instruction.
-The nearby Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor will be open for tours.
-The nearby Cape May County Park/Zoo will be open for visitors.
-The nearby Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum will be open for visitors.
-A portion of the Morey's Piers & Beachfront Water Parks will be open.
-Bike the boardwalk, always fun!
-Play mini golf!
-SUPGUY will be taking Kayak and SUP board tour reservations, SUP Guy: Stand Up Paddle Board Rentals
-A Tiny Cruise Line will be booking private Tiki boat tours, Tiny Cruise Line.
-Book a fishing trip with Sailor's Delight Back Bay Fishing LLC, it's Flounder and Crabbing season!
-Book a trip on the Cape May Whale Watcher.
-Visit the nearby historic Historic Cold Spring Village.
-Check out Cape May, New Jersey and all it's victorian architecture, shops and restaurants.

We are lucky enough to be allowed to camp on the beach this year in Wildwood, but that can be taken away from us anytime, just like they are trying to take away our NJ Pine Barrens.
