KAWS registration is open!! (That's the Kansas Alliance of Weavers and Spinners conference to newer members. ☺️) This year, it is hosted by the Manhattan Area Fiber Arts Guild, and will be held on Oct. 9 & 10. Check out all the details and register online at https://www.mhkfiberarts.org/kaws-2026! There will be a luncheon speaker, vendors and classes, and lots of in-person networking! Don't wait too long to register for classes, though, because class sizes are limited. See you there! (P.S. - If you are a member of a local Kansas Guild, you're also a member of KAWS!)

Spinners - and those who are spincurious - are all welcome to drop in to our monthly Open Spin on Sunday, July 12 from 2 - 4 pm. It's a low-key, no-fee time to just hang out together. Want to learn basic crochet, or brush up your crochet skills? Plan to drop in to the class at Midsummer Faire tomorrow (June 27), from 11 - 1! https://wichitaweavers.prairiefibers.org/2nd-annual-midsummer-faire/ All supplies are provided, and all skill levels are welcome - there is a variety of options and projects. It's only $15 for two hours of instruction (or a total of $20 if you choose a more involved project with extra supplies).

How about a small no-commitment weaving project that's just radiates 'summer fun'? Branch weaving fills the bill! No experience required and family friendly, this is just one of the activities on tap at the Guild's Midsummer Faire on Saturday, June 27th! All supplies are included, with personal instruction, for just 2 tickets ($5 each). Admission is free, and we have plenty of things to do and see for all ages! Check out the details and drop in any time from 10 am - 3 pm (or before 1 pm if you want to do some dyeing). Indigo dyeing is flat out magic! Watching your fiber/fabric turn from light green to blue after the first dip is kind of addicting. 😁 If you like a lighter blue, you can stop there, but most people go on to two or three dips for the iconic dark blue. You can do this magic yourself at our Midsummer Faire this Saturday, June 27 from 10 am - 1 pm! Bring your own fiber, yarn, fabric or t-shirt (that will fit in a large cooking pot) of cotton, wool, linen, or buy a fat quarter while supplies last. You can do some tie-dye-like resists for a shibori effect, dip only partway for a gradient, or make it a gorgeous solid! Nancy Squire will be on hand to walk you through the process and provide tips and instruction. Learn how to take natural and dyed fibers and create a range of heathered batts, and then try your hand at creating batts to spin classic (and classy) tweed yarns at home!
