Blanton’s has one of the most iconic origin stories in bourbon. In 1984, Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee honored his mentor, Colonel Albert B. Blanton, by bottling bourbon the way Blanton once reserved for VIP guests: one exceptional barrel at a time. That idea became the first modern single‑barrel bourbon and helped spark the premium bourbon movement we know today.

It’s also a bourbon that sparks debate. Because every bottle comes from a single barrel, the flavor can vary from one release to the next, something enthusiasts love and critics question. The Bourbon Salute family is saddened to share the passing of our longtime friend, sponsor, and brother-in-arms, Lumberjack Tom.

At only 39 years old, Tom lived a full-proof life. As a member of the Air Force for 19 years, he understood the true meaning of service, carrying that same mission-first mindset into everything he did for our community.

Tom was a rare spirit— bold, unfiltered, and deeply kind. His generosity was instrumental in our ability to serve Team McConnell, but it was his larger-than-life personality that we will miss most. Whether it was his infectious smile or his steadfast warmth, Tom had a way of making everyone feel like they were sharing a glass of the good stuff among best friends.

In the world of bourbon, the "Angel’s Share" is the portion lost to the heavens during the aging process. Today, we feel that loss more than ever. Though his time with us was far too short, the impact of his service and his friendship is permanent.

Today, we raise our glasses and toast a rare spirit taken far too soon, and a friendship that we will never forget. Cheers to you Tom. You will be deeply missed. Rest easy, brother. We'll take the watch from here. 🥃
