Brother Mickey McGrath - Oct 21-23, 2022
Join us for a weekend with Brother Michael McGrath, OSFS, a professional artist from Camden, NJ, who has a passion for writing about and painting pictures of the life and ministry of socially active people who made a difference that still ignites people’s spirits today. Since our Lial property has been named a Kateri Habitat because of our preservation for nature and installation of geothermal heating and cooling for our Senior Sisters’ home on the property, Br. Mickey will be here for a weekend retreat October 21-23 featuring such people as Black Elk and Saint Kateri Tekakwitha.
Black Elk, a Native American born in 1863 and second cousin of the war leader Crazy Horse, fought with him in the Battle of Little Bighorn. A famous holy man, traditional healer, and visionary of the Oglala Lakota (Sioux) of the northern Great Plains, Black Elk survived the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890.
Born in 1656 in New York, Kateri was baptized Catherine and informally known as Lily of the Mohawks. An Algonquin–Mohawk, Kateri is a Catholic saint and virgin who was beatified by St. John Paul II in 1980 and canonized a saint by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012.
