Team Pastitsio or Team Moussaka

We get a lot of questions about what the difference is between these two festival favorites. Both contain seasoned ground beef and are topped with bechamel, but Pastitsio is also made with pasta and cheese (more like lasagna), and Moussaka has layers of eggplant and potatoes. Only one can be the winner! Let’s see which dish has the hearts of our followers!

We are open starting today at 11:00am.

The Art of Saganaki (video)
The art of flaming Greek cheese served with pita triangles and lemon slices is a GrecianFest favorite. Opa!
The term "saganaki" comes from the Greek word "sagani," referring to a small, two-handled frying pan traditionally used to cook various dishes. While the precise origins of saganaki are debated, it is widely acknowledged that the practice of frying cheese likely emerged from the agricultural lifestyles of Greek shepherds who had access to abundant sheep's and goat's milk.
In the mid-20th century, particularly in the 1960s, saganaki gained fame in the United States through a theatrical presentation involving flambéing the cheese at the table. This practice was popularized at the Parthenon restaurant in Chicago, where restaurant patrons would shout "opa!" as the cheese was lit, becoming a quintessential experience in Greek-American dining culture. This flambéing ritual, while rarely found in traditional Greek settings, has become a hallmark of Greek restaurants across North America.
SAGANAKI ONLY AFTER 4pm. Mark your calendar for July 23, 24, 25 and 26 at 2215 Chapline Street, Wheeling WV

Greek Milestone… surpassing the ordinary French fry!

We first introduced Tavern Fries several years ago to much fanfare. They’re fried sliced potatoes tossed with lemon, olive oil, crumpled Feta cheese and Greek spices. Everyone loves these!

Then…. we introduced OPA FRIES! We can’t wait to serve you these Tavern Fries topped with Gyro Mezze and Tzatziki sauce. Order at the Outdoor Taverna. Opa!

Tell us what your favorite menu item is?

Have you tried Mezze?

Mezze is traditionally a selection of small dishes served as appetizers in Eastern Mediterranean cuisines.

Our popular GrecianFest Mezze is an appetizer made from grilled and chopped Gyro meat sautéed with peppers, onions and Feta and served with fried Pita triangles.

Stop by the GrecianFest Taverna and enjoy a Mezze!
