Depot Theatre

Depot Theatre The Depot Theatre is dedicated to bringing professional theatre to the Lake Champlain Region and preserving our historic home. Welcome to The Depot Theatre.

Our historic building is a functioning train station built in 1876, so journeys with The Depot Theatre are both literal and figurative. Our theatrical journeys require no passport or baggage, just your willingness to sit in a comfortable seat in an air conditioned room while our professional artists dazzle you with story, dance and song.

Tickets are now on sale.

Not just for a show, but for the start of summer at the Depot Theatre.

In early June, the season begins with Hadestown: Teen Edition on our Main Stage—eight performances that bring our community of young artists into the spotlight and open the doors to everything that follows.

From there, the summer unfolds with Tick, Tick… Boom!, Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and Ring of Fire.

If you’ve been thinking about a night at the theatre, this is the moment to choose your seats.

Thank you to the Press Republican, Lake Placid News, and Adirondack Daily Enterprise for helping us spread the word! We’re excited to welcome students through the door this week.

At its core, this work is about communication: helping young people build the confidence and skills to speak clearly, present their ideas, and show up with a sense of ease in front of others.

If you have a young person who’s curious, creative, or simply looking to grow in this area, this is a wonderful place to start.

🎭 No experience needed
🎭 Supportive, low-pressure environment
🎭 Led by local theatre artists who know how to meet students where they are

Join us for our upcoming Theatre Pop-Up: Shakespeare Bugaloo — a hands-on workshop focused on communication, confidence, and finding your voice.

📍 Friday, April 17 (school-based)
📍 Saturday, April 18 (open to all Essex County youth)

Saturday’s session will take place at the new Essex County Youth & Agriculture Building in Westport, one of the first programs to be held in this new community space.

A board work day, in the truest sense.

For a long time, the attic and basement held what every theatre collects over decades: a little history, a little mystery, and more than a few things we no longer needed.

The “Wasp’s Nest” attic, basement, and archives are cleared, sorted, and reorganized thanks to an incredible crew of board, staff, and volunteers.

Grateful for the hands that made it happen and for the many others who carry this theatre forward in ways seen and unseen. 🙏🎭

🙏Thank you Casella for the container donation!

Throughout the day on Saturday, groups of young performers moved through auditions for Hadestown: Teen Edition; 47 students in all, each bringing their own voice, energy, and point of view.

It was a long day, made possible by a terrific team and a few board members who stepped in to help keep everything running smoothly.

We’re so grateful to every student who showed up ready to take a risk, and to the artists, staff, and volunteers who created a space that was focused, welcoming, and full of possibility.

Full cast announcement coming soon!

To everyone who auditioned, thank you.
This is where it all begins.

With gratitude to our Hadestown: Teen Edition sponsors The Mill - ADK and Emerging Blue for supporting this work behind the scenes.
