The weather was beautiful for the 20th Annual Westport Island Shore Run 10K Road Race that took place on Sunday, August 17, 2025, on bridge-accessible Westport Island, Maine. We had a great turnout for "Maine's Best Little 10K Road Race" with over 80 runners and walkers. The 20th anniversary running of the race benefited the Westport Island Volunteer Fire Department, whose members directed traffic, provided logistical support, and otherwise did an excellent job helping out at the race! Over $2,000 was raised for the firefighters.

The Westport Island Shore Run 10K Road Race Takes Place This Year on Sunday, August 17, 2025!

To all friends of the Westport Island Shore Run:

The weather is looking great for the 20th Annual Westport Island Shore Run 10K Road Race taking place this year on Sunday, August 17, 2025, on bridge-accessible Westport Island, Maine. The forecast is for clear skies and temperature in the high 60's - perfect running weather for "Maine's Best Little 10K Road Race!" We had a great turnout for the run in 2024 with over 50 runners and more than ten participants in the "fun walk." The 20th anniversary running of the race will again benefit the Westport Island Volunteer Fire Department, whose members direct traffic and provide logistical and medical support at the race. Over the past 19 years, the race has raised over $35,000 for the Westport Island firefighters! This year, it is also the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Westport Island Volunteer Fire Department. Come run or walk with us!

A SUNNY SKY AND COOL WEATHER WAS ON HAND FOR THE 18TH ANNUAL WESTPORT ISLAND SHORE RUN!

The 18th Annual Westport Island Shore Run 10K Road Race took place on Sunday, August 20, 2023, on bridge-accessible Westport Island, Maine. The weather was fantastic - cool temperatures under a clear, blue sky - for the 10K race and a 3.5 mile "fun walk." We had our biggest turnout ever - over 70 runners and walkers participated in the event this year!

The exciting race took place on a beautiful USATF-certified course that winds through scenic pine and fir tree forests and over two bridges spanning inlets to Heal Cove and Montsweag Bay. The race benefitted the Westport Island Volunteer Fire Department, whose members directed traffic and provided logistical support at the race. Over the past eighteen years - including this year's race - the event has generated over $32,000 in proceeds for the volunteer firefighters.

A great job was done by our official course computer timer Jim McCorkle and his company 5K Sports Management for the 18th year! The post-race award ceremony was exciting and the raffle prize giveaway was enjoyed by all! Thanks to our volunteers - Marcy Axelrad Whitney and Jordan Whitney - for their excellent work at the registration table and course finish line! And thanks to the Westport Island Volunteer Fire Department for keeping the runners safe from local traffic on the course.

There will be a 10K race and a 3.5 mile "fun walk." The 10K race begins at 9:00a.m. - the Fun Walk" begins at 8:30 a.m. Last year, we had almost 70 participants! There was beautiful weather for the running of the 17th Annual Westport Island Shore Run 10K Road Race that took place on Sunday, August 21, 2022 on Westport Island, Maine. The 10K road race started at 9:00 a.m, and the 3.5 mile "Fun Walk" started at 8:30 a.m.

This exciting 10K road race on Westport Island took place on a USATF-certified beautiful course that winds through scenic pine and fir tree forests and over two bridges spanning inlets to Heal Cove and Montsweag Bay. The race was sanctioned by USATF and benefitted the Westport Island Volunteer Fire Department, whose members directed traffic and provided logistical support at the race for the participants. Over the past sixteen years, the race has generated over $27,000 in proceeds for the firefighters.

Jim McCorkle of 5K Sports Management timed the race again this year for the 17th time! The participants had clear skies and cool temperatures during the run and walk, and all enjoyed the awards ceremony, raffle prize giveaway and post-race refreshments that took place just outside the Old Town Hall.

15th Annual Westport Island Shore 10K Road Race to Take Place on Sunday, August 18, 2019!

Registration is now open for the 15th annual running of the Westport Island Shore Run, "Maine’s Best Little 10K Road Race." Go to the "Registration" page at westportisland.org to sign up and for more information. The 10K race will start at the Old Town Hall on bridge-accessible Westport Island, Maine, at 9:00am. The 3.5 mile "fun walk" begins at 8:30am. The proceeds from the event go to support the brave men and women of the Westport Island Volunteer Fire Department.

In this exciting race, you will run on a USATF-certified course through scenic pine and fir tree forests and over two bridges spanning inlets to Heal Cove and Montsweag Bay. Hawks and osprey may be soaring above race course. and almost no traffic will be on the gravel and asphalt course. The Damariscotta, Maine Lincoln County News has called the Westport Island Shore Run a "beautiful course," and a "very exciting run." Come run in Maine's best little 10K race!

Computer timing services provided for the 15th year in a row by 5K Sports Race Management. Distance mile markers and water stations will be provided, and on-site EMTs and medical assistance will be available, if needed. The race is santioned by USATF-Maine. Awards to be presented to top male and female finishers, and to age group winners. Post-race refreshments and awards ceremony to take place at Old Town Hall.
