Happy Simulation Week!

This week, we e celebrated the incredible impact of simulation in healthcare education and recognizing the outstanding members of our Simulation Team who work behind the scenes to create realistic, challenging, and meaningful learning experiences for our students.

From the very first skills practice to high-stakes patient scenarios, simulation provides a safe environment where students can build confidence, strengthen clinical judgment, develop teamwork skills, and learn from mistakes before entering real-world patient care settings. Our simulation faculty and staff invest countless hours designing experiences that prepare future healthcare professionals to provide safe, compassionate, and effective care.

To our amazing simulation team, Tammy Schwaab (Simulation Director), Christine Schlaerth, Rebecca Barker, Peggy Benko, Caitlin Carr, and Donna Rhorbaugh (Lab Coordinator), we thank you. You provide a safe learning experience tailored to the needs of our students and curricular outcomes. Without you, our students would not have these safe, high-level learning opportunities.

Students in their Nursing Concepts 1 course had their first skills lab this week. A special thanks to our Physical Therapist Assistant students and faculty who helped teach mobility skills!

It was wonderful to have students back in the halls after summer break. They hit the ground running learning about safety, medication administration, assessment, IV skills, Obstetrics, and used virtual reality simulation. We have two great groups of incredible humans who will make incredible nurses. Happy first week of class to all!

As we welcome a new academic year, I want to take a moment to recognize the truly exceptional faculty and staff of our Nursing Department.

Over the past two weeks, I have watched this team return to campus with energy, dedication, and a genuine commitment to student success. Long before the first day of class, they have been hard at work preparing courses, updating materials, planning clinical experiences, coordinating schedules, and making sure everything is in place for our students.

What makes this group so special is not just their expertise, though they bring an incredible wealth of knowledge and real-world experience to the classroom. It is their unwavering commitment to caring, teaching, mentoring, and supporting the next generation of nurses. They invest their hearts into this work every single day.

I am incredibly grateful for each member of our team and proud to work alongside such talented, compassionate professionals. Our students are truly fortunate to learn from faculty and staff who are dedicated not only to academic excellence, but also to helping them grow into confident, competent, and caring healthcare professionals.

Thank you to our Nursing Department faculty and staff for all that you do. Your hard work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is seen in every student you inspire and every future nurse you help prepare for the profession.
