Massachusetts 4-H’er Selected as Runner Up for National 4-H Award

Georgetown, Mass. (September 15, 2026) – National 4-H Council announced today that Clare Canny of Georgetown, Massachusetts is a runner up for the 4-H Youth in Action Award. Canny is recognized nationally for her dedication to wildlife conservation and efforts in public policy.

Canny (14), became involved in 4-H through a dog project but quickly discovered a variety of project interests. After being inspired by a local news story, Canny founded Save Georgetown Wildlife, an initiative focused on educating her community about second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs). She organized petitions, worked with town officials, and advocated for regulations restricting SGAR use on town-owned properties. Her work has expanded statewide through testimony at the State House and collaboration with environmental leaders working toward broader reform. The 4-H Youth in Action Awards began in 2010 to recognize 4-H’ers who have used the knowledge they gained in 4-H to create a lasting impact in their community. It's not too late to submit your pre-entries for the Stokowski Scholarship Benefit Horse Show. The 4-H/Open Horse Show, sponsored by the Board of Directors with help from Middlesex County 4-H HAC and Horse Club members, will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026. And just like that, it's the Monday after the Fair. People and animals have gone home; tents have been taken down, equipment put away. Another year is in the books (well, except for all the paperwork to be finished). And what a weekend it was! Sunny days, great food, and so many activities...hope everyone got to see it all!

On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, THANK YOU to all of those volunteers behind the scenes who worked so hard to make the Fair happen. We can't do this without the department chairs, club leaders, parents, alumni, and all the other individuals who work so hard all weekend, all over the fairgrounds.

To all the 4-H members, thanks for doing such a great job this weekend with your exhibits and animals. And for stepping up to help out in all the areas of the fairgrounds where we needed your help. You guys rock!

To my fellow members of the Board of Directors, take a break and put your feet up. You deserve it! You get a couple of days off before we start planning for 2027 😉
