https://breakoutcon.com/ It’s a great time to be a gamer! Never before has the table-top gaming hobby in all its various forms enjoyed such popularity. There are more venues at which to game than ever before. Yet, for many years now, Toronto has lacked a dedicated multi-day convention purely focused on table-top gaming. Breakout – Gaming Convention was conceived to provide a local space in which hundreds of fans of our hobby can gather together for three exciting days of boardgaming and RPGs. With more than ten years of experience in running quarterly boardgame events, the organizers of the Toronto Area Boardgaming Society (TABS) approached the organizers of the Toronto Area Gamers (TAG) Meetup group and the Toronto Role Players Association (TRPA) to bring this event to life. Under the banner of a joint gaming community, the first Breakout event was held in March 2016. With prizes, tournaments and industry guests planned along with all the table-top gaming you can pack in over three solid days, there’s simply no better way to close out the March Break, March 17-19, 2023!

For context, Helena is a TTRPG designer, editor, and translator. She’s the co-designer of Dungeon World 2, the upcoming sequel to the acclaimed PbtA game. She has designed other TTRPG materials for various games and systems since 2015, including 7th Sea: Second Edition, Bluebeard’s Bride, and Avatar Legends, among various others. She also authored two Fate Worlds: The Way of the Pukona and Ngen Mapu. Pukona won the "Best Setting" award at the Indie Groundbreaker Awards 2019. She also received the 2020 IGDN Diversity Sponsorship.

Her focus in design and development is on cultivating experiences that create links between the actions players take in the game, the narrative the game presents, and the emotional arc of play. Some of her recent design credits include Grendel: The Game of Crime and Mayhem, Kingdom Rush: Elemental Uprising, and Gods of Midgard.

Avery Alder is an award-winning tabletop role-playing game designer hailing from Treaty 6 territory. For the past nineteen years, Avery has been designing games about q***r identity, relationships, community, precarity, and the end of the world. Her work includes The Quiet Year, Monsterhearts, Dream Askew, Ribbon Drive, and Going For Broke. Her love of game design has also led her into teaching, workshop facilitation, and design consulting.
