How do we honor Juneteenth? Through learning, connection and community care.
June’s Shared Stories event brings people together for an evening rooted in Black history, culture and shared reflection, created in close partnership with Sema Hadithi. Designed collaboratively with community leaders, the program centers on education, storytelling and meaningful engagement.

Join us for a reception with food and time to connect with Black-operated organizations and other community-centered groups serving people through resources and support. During the second hour, Robert Burch of Sema Hadithi will guide participants through an interactive educational exhibit, inviting guests to engage directly with history and its present-day impact.
A screening of the PBS documentary Slavery by Another Name will follow, deepening the conversation around freedom, resilience and the legacy of enslavement in the United States.

Together, we will create space to learn, reflect and celebrate history while strengthening community through dialogue and shared experience.

We’re excited to host this special community screening of Suffs at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center this Friday in partnership with the Women’s History Initiative and Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson.

A meaningful evening of history, storytelling and reflection connected to the ongoing conversations happening through our current exhibitions.

Registration required.

Join Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson and the Women's History Initiative for a live watch party of the award-winning Broadway Musical Suffs! The musical celebrates the fight for women’s voting rights, highlighting the tensions in the movement and the strategies of a young generation of suffragists who pushed the 19th Amendment across the finish line.

📅 Friday May 8 at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center
This is a FREE event but registration is required: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/womenshistoryinitiative/event/suffswatchparty/

Refreshments and activities begin at 6 pm, with the screening starting at 7 pm. The show's run-time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, with a 15-minute intermission.

Utah played a pioneering role in the suffrage movement, and displays and activities at the screening will highlight the Beehive State’s important role in the story. We hope to see you there!

Every story starts somewhere.

Building Blocks of America brings together a series of paintings by artists from Harman Senior Recreation Center, each one capturing a moment, place or idea that helped shape the United States.

Inspired by 250 years of history, these pieces reflect personal perspectives on the people, places and words that continue to define our nation. Together, they form a collective snapshot of how we remember, reflect and connect.

On view April 24 through June 24 at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center.
