Friends, this is about the time of year when we’d be announcing the date for Starry Night in the fall. This year, we have a different announcement: We (Purdue Christian Campus House) have made the decision to bring Starry Night to a close.
It may seem strange to do so when the festival is, in many ways, at the height of its popularity. But it is time. We’ve treasured the opportunity to welcome and serve the Purdue and Greater Lafayette communities, but over the past few years, the festival has faced rising costs, both in dollars and in our staff’s time, that make it unsustainable for our church and ministry.
Rob Schrumpf, our festival director, shared a short letter with more of the “why” behind this decision on our website (starrynightfestival.com), which we invite you to read. We are immensely grateful for everyone—volunteers and attendees, vendors and musicians, and our generous supporting partners—who made 20 years of Starry Night possible. We love this community, and our hope is that the creativity and community that were at the core of Starry Night will live on in new ways.
