From artist Russell Buzzell, of Buck Hill Studio (stop #2): "No Nose Noonan" is an example of scratchboard. Black ink covers the canvas. Using a small tool, scratch off the image to reveal an almost negative effect. This was an illustration for a magazine article about a Northern CA journalist and his cat, Noonan. Noonan was bitten by a rattlesnake, losing the tip of his nose, and he lived on to hunt down rattlesnakes to kill them. Prints available at Buck Hill Studio.
