High Desert Horsemanship Challenge

Our annual Dia de los Mu***os Working Equitation Schooling Show is just a few weeks away.... That means it is time to stop procrastinating and get those entries into the mail! The response, so far, has been great, and if you want to join the fun you had better hustle to the post office, chop-chop! 🏇
On the fence about whether you and your pony are "good enough" or ready to compete? Well, don't be! New to WE? No worries! This is a podunk SCHOOLING SHOW, not the Grand National! We have all have to start somewhere, and a schooling show is the perfect place to test the waters. Come on....JUMP IN!

Schooling shows are a wonderful way to foster your relationship with your equine and meeting some swell new horsefolk as well. 😊
During last year's show, we held a canned food drive and raffle to benefit the food pantry of the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon & Storey Counties. Over the course of the weekend, our awesome participants donated over 200 # of canned and boxed food items. The raffle earned $275, enabling the pantry to purchase additional hams and turkeys for those less fortunate during the holiday season. It would be absolutely fabulous to not only match, but exceed those amounts this year! So on that note..... in addition to the food drive and raffle, this year we are also having a SILENT AUCTION! This will be a small auction with just a few select items, such as a handmade quilt (Cindy Clark), 1/ 2 ton grass hay (RN Fulstone Ranches) and a horse shade shelter (High Desert Barns!) WOWZA! ❤️

OOPS! I almost forgot to mention the "Best Dressed Dia de los Mu***os" costume contest on Sunday is always funtastic, too! 💀 The Broken Bit Ranch is a USA Working Equitation Affiliate Organization and we will be following the rules as set forth by the association. Our judge for this show is USAWE "r" judge Sarah Pinney. Sarah has been judging the Dia show since it inception and we are looking forward to seeing her here, again! 👩‍⚖️ For information re: USAWE...... usawe.org

Ten years strong….. and that’s a wrap for the 2022 High Desert Horsemanship Challenge. This season we tried a new format focused on the versatile discipline of Working Equitation. We had a great time, and hope that our participants did, too! Many thanks the everyone who contributed to our successful year! Clinicians Jessica Mosbaugh Panighetti (obstacles)and Mariko Skube (dressage) knocked it out of the ballpark! Shannon Yee, our judge and her eagle eyed scribe, Bailey Yee, were fantastic! Honest opinions rendered with kind and encouraging comments. They also went above and beyond, jumping into help out wherever needed.
And that, folks, is what this sport is all about!

It is always with great appreciation that we mention and thank our volunteers….Carlene Rader (scoring, office), Marie-Laure Ilian (gate & arena steward), Mariko Williams (a lot of everything), Annabelle Toothaker, Tracey Jean Wolfe, and Melissa Starks (arena set up), Kathy Frederickson (baking), Mary Kuckenmeister and Debbie Rosse (timers) and finally Pj Fry (hubby, arena grooming & general schlepping of stuff)!

Our challengers were, once again, a great bunch of horse folk and a joy to be around! Well done, and congratulations to all!

What a fantastic weekend! Our WE Obstacle clinic was the perfect kickoff to to the tenth season of the HDHC. Such a great group of Challengers…. everyone was a rockstar!

Jessica Mosbaugh-Panighetti is a top notch clinician with a refreshingly upbeat, positive, can-do attitude! Her teaching tool kit is packed with an abundance of good stuff…. something for every horse and rider! We very much look forward to having Jessica back to the ranch in the future!
