Congratulations to this week’s APL/ACELA Boy Player of the Week, Abdiel Mejia (Penn Rising XI Gold U10)! 🏆🔥

"Abdiel Mejia delivered an incredible performance this weekend against Delaware FC North Black, showcasing exactly what it means to compete with confidence, passion, and joy.

Playing both left back and center midfield, Abdiel made a tremendous impact throughout the match. After our team fell behind 1-0, Abdiel sparked the comeback with a goal to give our team momentum. As the match continued and we found ourselves down again, Abdiel stepped up once more, scoring to bring us level at 3-3.

He wasn’t finished.

Abdiel completed a hat trick, including a dramatic last-minute goal that secured a point for Penn Rising XI Gold. His ability to impact the game from multiple positions, continue competing regardless of the scoreline, and step up when his team needed him most was exceptional.

Beyond the goals, what stood out most was the way Abdiel played. He displayed tremendous passion, freedom, and genuine love for the game from the opening whistle to the final moment. His performance earned him our team’s “Man of Joy” award—a recognition given to the player who embraces the game, plays with freedom, and brings infectious energy and excitement to the field.

Abdiel’s performance was a perfect combination of resilience, versatility, creativity, and joy, helping Penn Rising XI Gold battle back and earn a hard-fought result.

Congratulations to this week’s APL/ACELA Girl Player of the Week, Marcella Aulakh ( #2, Lower Merion Soccer Club U9 Girls Navy & ACELA 2)! 🏆🔥

"Marcella is off to a great start to the fall ACELA season and was instrumental in trading the team to two convincing victories this past weekend. On Saturday she scored two goals and had three assists in our 5-1 home win against HVAA Freedom. On Sunday, Marcella scored three goals and had two assists in a 6-0 shutout road win at Ukrainian Nationals.

Marcella is a team leader and hard worker. She is fast, skillful and creative in the attack and always a threat to score. Additionally she defends well and applies great pressure on the ball to create turnovers that lead to goal scoring opportunities.

Five goals and five assists in the first two league games on consecutive days is a special performance and deserving of player of the week consideration. " - Coach Adrian ⚽

"Nico delivered an outstanding performance this weekend, recording 2 goals and 3 assists while playing with an incredible level of joy, freedom, and confidence. He impacted the game on both sides of the ball, played his heart out from start to finish, and consistently created opportunities for his teammates.

Facing FC Europa Pre-ECNL, our team snapped their 16-game unbeaten streak, and Nico was one of the driving forces behind that result. His creativity, attacking influence, work rate, and ability to bring his teammates into the game made a significant difference.

What made his performance even more special was the recognition he received from the opposition. FC Europa’s coach highlighted Nico as the best player on the field, a tremendous compliment considering the level of competition.

Nico was also awarded our team’s “Man of Joy” award—a recognition given to the player who plays with freedom, excitement, and genuine enjoyment for the game. Nico embodied that perfectly. His smile, energy, creativity, and willingness to make plays were evident throughout the entire match.

Two goals. Three assists. A complete performance. A 16-game unbeaten streak ended. Recognition from the opposing coach. And, most importantly, a player who played with pure joy.
