✨ Tsa Tsas from The Magical Display of the Arts ✨

Tsa tsas are sacred votives or reliefs created as offerings and supports for practice. The tsa tsas produced by The Magical Display of the Arts at Pema Osel Ling are not only decorative objects—they have been created in direct relationship to stupas, sacred sites, and lineage activity.

Many of our tsa tsas were originally designed to fill stupas, including the kudung (memorial) stupas of H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche, H.H. Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche, and Lama Tharchin Rinpoche. Each design began with an original form that received final approval from Lama Tharchin Rinpoche himself before being made into molds. The tsa tsas are then hand-cast with added sacred substances, finished, painted, and blessed with the appropriate mantra by the lamas of Pema Osel Ling.

This 23.5K Gold Gilded Wheel and Deer Tsa Tsa Set was designed by Lama Tharchin Rinpoche for our Stupa Peace Park. The Wheel and Deer represent the Buddha’s first turning of the Wheel of Dharma at Deer Park in Sarnath. The male and female deer symbolize harmony, attentiveness, and receptivity to the teachings—peacefully abiding beside the Dharma as it is set into motion.

✨ Etched Copper Serkyems ✨

Serkyem (golden drink) offerings are ritual offerings made to protector deities and guardians. Also known as “Dharmapalas,” these protectors are called upon by practitioners for help with both spiritual and worldly matters. Gathered beneath Guru Rinpoche’s gaze—teachers, friends, and families together for Summer Retreat at Pema Osel Ling, 1995 or 1996.

There is so much joy in this photograph, a glimpse of the community that grew around Lama Tharchin Rinpoche’s vision. Through shared practice, teachings, sacred art, and the work of many hands, that vision took root among the redwoods.

Over the decades, these activities have brought generations of practitioners together to receive transmissions and deepen their connection with the Dudjom Tersar lineage. We look back with gratitude to the teachers who have guided us and everyone whose care and dedication have helped sustain this place of refuge and practice.

✨ Our Tibetan Treasure Vases are filled with over 150 sacred substances gathered and prepared according to the Dudjom Tradition—each one chosen for its specific energetic and spiritual qualities. Some of these substances are combined into Mother Pills, a mixture of substances and clay which are hand-rolled while mantras are recited, dried and painted gold. Mother pills and all other items not mixed into the Mother Pill clay are then placed into the vases during their ceremonial filling at Pema Osel Ling. Once sealed and consecrated, the vase becomes a complete vessel for benefit, harmony, and auspicious conditions.

✨ Dharma Jewelry from Natsog Dorje ✨

Dharma Treasures carries jewelry crafted by the renowned Buddhist workshop Natsog Dorje, an artisan sculpture studio and foundry dedicated to developing entirely authentic ritual objects and images to support Vajrayana Secret Mantra practice.

Featured here is a pair of beautifully handcrafted pure silver Driguk earrings. The Driguk is the curved knife of the Dakini which severs the two obscurations with its double-sided blade, then pulls us toward awakening with its curved hook of compassion.

🌸 Throwback Thursday | First Summer Retreat at Pema Ösel Ling, 1991 🌸

Thirty-five years ago, this gathering marked the first Summer Retreat at Pema Ösel Ling. With the center newly established, Lama Tharchin Rinpoche and the sangha were putting down roots here in the Santa Cruz Mountains, creating a home where the Dudjom Tersar lineage could be practiced, preserved, and shared with generations to come.

Much like today’s retreats, early Summer Retreats offered a month devoted to practices such as Vajrakilaya, the Collection of Seven Treasures, Guru Yoga and Dzogchen teachings, and the Dance of the Eight Manifestations of Padmasambhava. These gatherings brought together teachings, meditation, and sacred arts, giving students the opportunity to put Rinpoche’s instructions into practice together.

We are grateful to our teachers and to everyone who has offered their time, work, and practice over the years to help establish Pema Ösel Ling and uphold Lama Tharchin Rinpoche’s vision.
